Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers RB Najee Harris had his fifth-year option declined because the team wants to see how he performs in offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's scheme but are open to signing him to a long-term deal in the future, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Huddle Up: The Steelers likely will run the ball often under Smith, so Harris could earn himself a long-term contract if he performs well this upcoming season. He can be considered a No. 2 or No. 3 running back in fantasy leagues and probably will be a starting option most weeks.

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Najee Harris did not have his fifth-year option for 2025 exercised by the team before the deadline to do so on Thursday, May 2.
Huddle Up: This news comes as a bit of a surprise considering the price for the option is $6.143 million, but Pittsburgh has long been hesitant to give out second contracts to running backs. Incidentally, Jaylen Warren's contract expires after this season as well. For fantasy purposes, Harris should be considered a RB2 with upside this season given his likely workload and the Steelers' upgrades up front.
