Kansas City Chiefs seventh-round draft choice Brashard Smith (Southern Methodist) is "an Alvin Kamara clone with 4.3 speed," according to ESPN's Louis Riddick.
Huddle Up: Analysts tend to be a bit hyperbolic in May, but Riddick is not far off on some of the qualities the two backs bring to the table. Smith was a receiver for most of his college career at Miami (Fla.) before transferring to SMU and transitioning to running back in 2024. While Smith lacks Kamara's trademark contact balance and it remains to be seen if Smith can handle a heavy workload at the NFL level, there is little doubt the two are similar in their ability to contribute in the passing game and break big runs. With most of his competition this season set to become free agents, Smith will have a head start on emerging as Kansas City's lead back in 2026 if he shows well this summer and fall.

Kansas City Chiefs fifth-round draft choice LB Jeffrey Bassa and seventh-round draft choice RB Brashard Smith signed four-year contracts with the Chiefs Monday, May 5. Financial terms were not disclosed.

SMU RB Brashard Smith recorded a 40-yard dash time of 4.39 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine. Smith measured in a 5-foot-10 and 194 pounds while posting a 32.5-inch vertical jump and 9-foot-9-inch broad jump.
