Cincinnati Bengals RB Tahj Brooks could open the season as the primary backup running back for the Bengals, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Ben Baby.

Cincinnati Bengals RB Tahj Brooks carried the ball 11 times for 47 yards against the Washington Commanders on Monday, Aug. 18. He also caught three passes (on four targets) for nine yards.
Huddle Up: Cincinnati continues to take a long look at Brooks, a sixth-round pick back in April, as they weigh their options behind Chase Brown. Following the earlier release of Zack Moss, the No. 2 role figures to come down to Brooks or veteran Samaje Perine, who is back with the Bengals after spending the past two seasons with the Broncos and Chiefs, respectively. If Brooks can lock down the backup job, he'd offer some handcuff appeal to Brown owners. If he slots in behind Perine, he'd become no more than watch list material.

Cincinnati Bengals RB Tahj Brooks rushed 10 times for just 26 yards in the preseason opener against the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday Aug. 7, and he had a 3-yard reception on two targets.
Huddle Up: The rookie Brooks had been turning heads in training camp, but 7-on-7 drills and 11-on-11 practices are much different than game situations against the other team. Brooks is behind Chase Brown and Samaje Perine on the depth chart, and he is not likely going to threaten that duo. He might have an uphill battle trying to hold off NFL veteran Gary Brightwell, though. Brooks is a player worth monitoring, as this was just one game. Don't get too down on the rookie just yet.

Cincinnati Bengals RB Tahj Brooks has a chance to climb the depth chart following the release of veteran Zack Moss (neck) on Thursday, July 31.
Huddle Up: Chase Brown is figured to be the primary starter, and Samaje Perine is expected to be the primary backup. However, after that, things are a bit murky. Brooks is trying to hold off journeyman Gary Brightwell for the No. 3 job, while Quali Conley and Kendall Milton are also in camp looking for a roster spot. If Brooks locks down the No. 3 job, he is just one injury away from a meaningful role and subsequent fantasy appeal in some formats.

Cincinnati Bengals third-round draft choice OG Dylan Fairchild, fourth-round draft choice LB Barrett Carter, fifth-round draft choice OT Jalen Rivers and sixth-round draft choice RB Tahj Brooks signed four-year contracts with the Bengals Thursday, May 8. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Texas Tech RB Tahj Brooks was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 193rd overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Huddle Up: Brooks may have a chance to compete with Zack Moss for the No. 2 running back job, so fantasy players can keep an eye on his status during training camp. He could be a possible late round option in some deeper leagues.
