Los Angeles Chargers TE Oronde Gadsden II reminds tight ends coach Andy Bischoff of a former pupil of his, Darren Waller. "I know it's a huge, huge forecast, but I was fortunate to coach Darren Waller and Darren Waller was a receiver in college. We turned him into a tight end. He's got some of those traits. It's way early. Way early, but he's twitchy. He separates, he does some really good things in the pass game. I think as he's become more comfortable in our system in the last four or five days, I think people are beginning to see that," Bischoff said Tuesday, June 17.
Huddle Up: The Chargers are certainly not trying to keep Gadsden a secret. While Gadsden is not quite the same freaky athlete that Waller was, it is also not hard to see why Bischoff is so high on him. Bischoff also commented about Gadsden being stronger and a better blocker than they thought he might be, which is about the only thing that could keep him off the field in two tight end sets this year. Tyler Conklin should still be considered the favorite to start in Week 1, but Gadsden could easily emerge as a fantasy factor at some point in 2025.

Los Angeles Chargers TE Oronde Gadsden II is "flashing some really good things" and likely "to ascend quickly," according to offensive coordinator Greg Roman.
Huddle Up: Gadsden fell to the fifth round in April's draft despite posting a 73-934-7 line in his final year at Syracuse. Some of the reason for his fall had to do with him being more of a slot-only player in a tight end's body for the Orange. While he appears unlikely to make much of a Year 1 impact behind Tyler Conklin and Will Dissly, he is a player to stash in dynasty since there is a strong chance he could be the clear starter for the Chargers in 2026 for an offensive coordinator who understands the value of tight ends in the passing game.

Los Angeles Chargers TE Oronde Gadsden II has been impressive during minicamp, according to ESPN's Kris Rhim, who writes that the rookie "projects to be a key piece" in LA's offensive attack. Offensive coordinator Greg Roman remarked that he thinks Gadsden will "ascend quickly."
Huddle Up: While Will Dissly (50-481-2) did a decent job a season ago, the Chargers feature only one truly established pass catcher in the form of Ladd McConkey. Beyond that, you're looking at Quentin Johnston, who has flashed but has yet to be consistent, and young players like Tre Harris, KeAndre Lambert-Smith, and Gadsden. We're still a long ways from Gadsden being on fantasy radars, but the Bolts feature an elite quarterbacking talent in Justin Herbert and have plenty of potential targets up for grabs, so he's a name to file away.
