New York Giants WR Malachi Fields could see a big role in the offense sooner rather than later. The receivers' room is a bit thin, and there is no certainty WR Malik Nabers (knee) will be able to return to start the regular season.
Huddle Up: With Nabers not a lock for the regular season start, and Darius Slayton, Gunner Olszewski and Beaux Collins nicked up initially, the rookie Fields might be doing a lot of on-the-job training, rather than studying, watching and developing. He is expected to get an opportunity to be a go-to option in the red zone, too, as the Giants need help in that area after finishing 27th in red-zone scoring percentage in 2025. Fields is an intriguing late-round option in redraft fantasy leagues, and a must-have in long-term keeper formats.

New York Giants WR Malachi Fields can be a "power forward" in the wide receiver room because of his size and blocking ability, according to general manager Joe Schoen.
Huddle Up: Fields could have a limited role early in his career, but if he proves to be a willing blocker, he should earn more snaps sooner rather than later. Not to mention that his size could make him a weapon in the red zone. Overall, there is enough to like about Fields to make him a target in rookie drafts, and he is worth monitoring throughout offseason activities.

Notre Dame WR Malachi Fields was selected by the New York Giants with the 74th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Huddle Up: Although the Giants added veteran Darnell Mooney, Fields should still have a good chance of seeing snaps as a rookie, especially if Malik Nabers is still recovering from his knee injury. Fields could be an option late in the second round of rookie drafts and a late-round lottery ticket in redraft leagues.

Notre Dame WR Malachi Fields managed just a 4.61-second speed in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine, but he also showed off substandard stop-start speed during on-field drills, causing him to be late on routes, while also dropping passes in the gauntlet drill. He posted a solid 38-inch vertical leap, though, which was considered impressive given his size of 6-foot-4 and 218 pounds. He also showed off strong hands in pass-catching drills.
