Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff will not play in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 22, according to head coach Dan Campbell. QB Josh Dobbs will start the game, and QB Luke Altmyer will also receive playing time.
Huddle Up: Goff is unlikely to play until Week 1 because the team does not want to risk any injuries in the preseason. He has one of the better groups of pass catchers to work with in the NFL but will probably be a No. 2 quarterback in most fantasy leagues.

Detroit Lions QB Luke Altmyer completed 13 of 22 passes for 130 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in a preseason loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday, Aug. 13. Altmyer also lost a fumble.

Detroit Lions QB Teddy Bridgewater has "decided to step away" from the team, according to head coach Dan Campbell on Sunday, Aug. 9. He is apparently considering retirement from the NFL at age 33. He was set to be the team's primary backup to QB Jared Goff. Now, QB Tom Kennedy will get a longer look, starting the preseason opener Thursday, Aug. 13, against the Cincinnati Bengals. Rookie QB Luke Altmyer is also in camp. The team is also expected to work out a few QBs.

Illinois QB Luke Altmyer showed touch on deep passes and the the ability to attack the middle of the field during Senior Bowl practice Thursday, Jan. 29, according to Jordan Reid of ESPN.com, and Reid believes Altmyer will be a draft target for teams that run the West Coast offense.
