LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs with the 249th pick overall in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Huddle Up: Garrett is the son of former NFL QB Doug Nussmeier, who is currently the offensive coordinator of the New Orleans Saints. It's a good landing spot for the rookie, who will be on the same roster as Patrick Mahomes II and Justin Fields. He'll have plenty of time to learn from head coach Andy Reid, offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, etc. He has a strong arm, and some upside and potential for down the road.

The Miami Dolphins are reportedly open to adding a quarterback and could target one starting in Round 3 and into Round 5, in the opinion of Palm Beach Post's Joe Schad on Monday, April 20. Lousiana State University QB Garrett Nussmeier (oblique) had tests at the NFL Scouting Combine that revealed a cyst in his spine, which was the root of his persistent oblique pain in 2025. The cyst was pressing on a nerve, causing discomfort in Nussmeier's oblique. He has been asymptomatic since just before the Senior Bowl and all throughout the draft process. If that changes down the road, Nussmeier could undergo a minimally invasive procedure and miss just two to three weeks while stitches heal. Either way, doctors say, there is no short- or long-term risk for Nussmeier.

LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier (oblique) suffered an abdominal injury in August, and the injury hampered him into September and October before eventually ending his season a month prematurely. "I couldn't use my core. So, I was throwing the ball without a core," Nussmeier said at the Senior Bowl. "I've been having to go back from the ground up and retrain myself and get back to finishing throws and rotating through the ball. I'm actually using my core now." He completed 67.4% of his passes for 1,927 yards and 12 TDs in 2025 before shutting it down.
