The Indianapolis Colts are "hopeful and optimistic" LB Shaquille Leonard (back) will play in Week 1, head coach Frank Reich said on Wednesday, Aug. 10. "You prepare for worst-case scenario. But Shaq is preparing like he's gonna be ready for Week 1," Reich said.

Indianapolis Colts LB Darius Leonard's back surgery could be connected to his lingering ankle and calf issues from 2021, per Zak Keefer of The Athletic. Doctors believe Leonard's ankle injury lingered because of a calf issue, which was thought to be a result of a nerve in his back. Keefer also writes Leonard could be back at or near the start of training camp.

Indianapolis Colts LB Darius Leonard (back) is expected to undergo back surgery Tuesday, June 7, according to CNHI Sports Indiana's George Bremer. Per Bremer, Leonard is expected to miss part of training camp, but the expectation is he will be ready for the regular season.

Indianapolis Colts LB Darius Leonard (ankle) said he feels healthier physically and mentally after spending the offseason resting and strengthening his ankle. ''It feels a whole lot better than what it did, coming from the end of the season,'' Leonard said. ''A lot of time to rest, trying to make it stronger. I feel better coming into this season than I did last year, I can say that.''

Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts LB Darius Leonard will also miss Week 17's game versus the Las Vegas Raiders, after receiving a positive COVID-19 test Saturday, Dec. 25, prior to Week 16's game versus the Arizona Cardinals. As an unvaccinated player, Leonard will be sidelined for a total of 10 days before he can rejoin the team.
