Pittsburgh Steelers TE Darnell Washington revealed that he played last season at 311 pounds, according to a source, and even got as heavy as 330 pounds. A recent report has him at 264 pounds, and he is poised to be a 'weapon' in Mike McCarthy's offense.
Huddle Up: Already powerful and athletic, a slimmer Washington could be on the field for more than 57% of the plays next season and take additional snaps away from Pat Freiermuth. Last season, Washington had career highs of 43 targets, 31 grabs and 364 yards, but scored just once. He could be a dangerous target in the red zone, but fantasy owners should take a wait-and-see approach with the 24-year-old.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Darnell Washington agreed to a four-year, $42 million extension Thursday, June 4. The deal includes $21 million guaranteed.
Huddle Up: The 2023 third-round pick had a 31-364-1 line last season, setting career highs in catches and yards. He still has Pat Freiermuth ahead of him, but the Steelers use a lot of 12-personnel, which utilizes two tight ends. Washington was the TE39 in 13 games last season and will probably only be an option in deeper formats. He could become a matchup play, though.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Darnell Washington emerged as a short-yardage favorite of QB Aaron Rodgers in 2025, and he and TE Pat Freiermuth are the only pure tight ends on the roster heading into the summer.
Huddle Up: Head coach Mike McCarthy has leaned upon his tight ends heavily in the past, so Washington could see a bump in targets and receptions, potentially filled the void of Jonnu Smith, who was released. However, it is expected Pat Freiermuth sees more of a resurgence in usage and fantasy value. Washington can be mostly avoided for fantasy purposes outside of deeper leagues, but he is a player to monitor closely, especially if Freiermuth should suffer any type of injury.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Darnell Washington (arm) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Dec. 31.
Huddle Up: Washington will have time to recover before the start of offseason workouts and likely will be on the field for the practices. He should have a similar role in the passing game next season and can be a No. 2 tight end in leagues.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Darnell Washington had three catches for 36 yards on four targets in Week 16 against the Detroit Lions, while losing a fumble.
Posted: 12/14/2025 3:09 pm GMT
Pittsburgh Steelers TE Darnell Washington (concussion) has cleared the concussion protocol and is expected to play in the Week 15 game.
Huddle Up: Washington has had an inconsistent role in the passing game during the second half of the season, so it is not known how many targets he will receive in Week 15. Fantasy players should have better options available and can avoid Washington.
