New Orleans Saints QBs Tyler Shough, Jake Haener and Hunter Dekkers worked out with WR Chris Olave, WR Rashid Shaheed, WR Brandin Cooks and other pass catchers earlier this week. QB Spencer Rattler did not attend because of a previous commitment, but Cooks said he worked out with Rattler earlier in the offseason and another throwing session is expected before training camp.
Huddle Up: Shough appears to be the leading candidate for the quarterback job entering training camp but will still have to hold off Rattler and Haener during practices. The winner of the starting job should be considered a No. 2 fantasy quarterback. Olave should be a weekly starter in most leagues, while Shaheed will have fantasy value.

New Orleans Saints QB Jake Haener (oblique) suffered an oblique strain Wednesday, May 21, and will miss a couple of weeks.
Huddle Up: The quarterback battle is wide open, but Haener may fall behind Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough now. Whoever wins the gig is a lackluster QB2 option.

New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore told reporters on Monday, May 19, that we will "give these guys (quarterbacks Spencer Rattler, Jake Haener, Tyler Shough and Hunter Dekkers) a bunch of opportunities" before adding help via trade or free agency. "Certainly, there (are) times where if the opportunity presents itself, you feel like it's a really good fit, you'd love to do it. We feel like we have some good guys here that can certainly mentor each other at the same time going through this process. ... We'll see how this whole thing progresses. The roster is a moving dynamic thing throughout the offseason process," Moore said.
Huddle Up: Derek Carr's recent retirement has left the team's young quarterbacks without a true veteran presence on the roster. Unfortunately for New Orleans, there is not much left at quarterback on the open market, with Tyler Huntley likely being the best of the bunch. Unless a decent veteran is cut during the preseason, the Saints will likely enter the season with the hope that Shough runs with the job and plays like a player who had seven years in college to prepare for this opportunity.

New Orleans Saints QBs Tyler Shough, Spencer Rattler, and Jake Haener will compete for the starting quarterback job, head coach Kellen Moore said Saturday, May 10, following the retirement of QB Derek Carr.
Huddle Up: Safely assume Shough, a 2025 second-rounder, will be granted the most flexibility in this battle. Regardless, the situation isn't too relevant for fantasy purposes in 2025. WR Chris Olave takes a little bit of a hit, and he already was risky to begin with. Consider TE Juwan Johnson a beneficiary of this group's inexperience.

New Orleans Saints QB Spencer Rattler completed 10-of-21 passes for 135 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Week 15 against the Washington Commanders, replacing the benched QB Jake Haener.
Huddle Up: Rattler did a decent job leading a touchdown drive in the fourth quarter, and the team came up short going for two with no time left on the clock. He is likely to start in Week 16 on the road against the Green Bay Packers, but he isn't worth pursuing in most fantasy leagues at this point.

New Orleans Saints QB Spencer Rattler replaced QB Jake Haener as the starting quarterback during the Week 15 game.
Huddle Up: Rattler entered the game with Haener struggled and likely will continue to start while Derek Carr is sidelined. Fantasy players probably should avoid all of the Saints quarterback at this point.

New Orleans Saints QB Jake Haener will be the starting quarterback for the Week 15 game, according to a source.
Huddle Up: Haener has thrown for 177 yards and one touchdown in his limited playing time this season and probably will not be asked to throw a lot against the Washington Commanders in Week 15. He should be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

New Orleans Saints QB Jake Haener relieved a mostly ineffective Spencer Rattler in Week 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers and finished 9-of-17 for 122 yards. Haener did not throw for a touchdown or an interception and ran for 10 yards on two carries.
Huddle Up: Not much needs to be said here. Neither quarterback (Rattler or Haener) has been able to move the ball with much consistency since Derek Carr (oblique) got hurt in Week 5. Carr should be ready to return in Week 9 versus the Carolina Panthers, who the Saints trounced 47-10 in Week 1. Neither Rattler nor Haener should be on most fantasy rosters.

New Orleans Saints QB Spencer Rattler completed 12-of-24 passes for 156 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers before getting benched in the second half in favor of QB Jake Haener.
Huddle Up: Rattler wasn't really a viable fantasy option outside of deeper leagues using two starting signal callers, and even then, on a full week with no teams on a bye, it was a stretch to start the rookie. You can drop him in all leagues if you were hanging onto Rattler for some reason.

New Orleans Saints QB Jake Haener completed 2-of-7 passes for 17 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in relief of the injured QB Derek Carr (oblique) with roughly six minutes remaining in regulation.
Huddle Up: Haener could potentially get the starting nod in Week 6 if Carr is unable to play due to his oblique injury, but it's way too early to determine that. If Carr cannot go, the offense would have a much more ground-based attack, most likely. Let's re-visit Wednesday once the first practice report is released for Tampa week.
