San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo completed 22-of-30 passes for 189 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions while also running for 20 yards and a score in Week 2 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Huddle Up: Jimmy G is hanging onto the starting job and keeping rookie Trey Lance nailed to the pine, at least for now, especially since San Francisco has fired out to a 2-0 start. Still, Garoppolo is nothing more than a low-end QB2 in most fantasy leagues. The 49ers host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football in Week 3.

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo completed 17-of-25 passes for 314 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions.
Huddle Up: Jimmy G gave way to Trey Lance on a special package in the red zone in the first quarter, and the rookie actually had the first TD throw of the season for the 49ers. But this is Garoppolo's job, and he picked up the win. He remains more of a low-end QB2 heading into Week 2 at Philadelphia, however.

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo is 'too good of a player' and has played 'too good of football' to not take the starting job into Week 1, according to comments made by head coach Kyle Shanahan on Monday, Aug. 2. 'I think that would be pretty tough to do so I'm not trying to put that pressure on Trey (Lance). Jimmy has played too good of football. He is too good of a player and Trey's trying to learn everything right now and soak it all in. So that's why I'd be very surprised if he was able to (overtake him),' Shanahan told reporters Monday.

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo will take the starter's reps in practice and won't face an 'open competition' for the job from Trey Lance, according to comments made by head coach Kyle Shanahan on Tuesday, July 27.
Huddle Up: These things are always subject to change, but Lance still hasn't signed his rookie deal yet. Thus, it will be hard for him to compete for the job in the first place. Based on recent history, this situation will likely work itself out naturally as Garoppolo has struggled to stay healthy. For what it's worth, Shanahan reiterated how sharp Garoppolo was throughout the spring, nor is he concerned about installing running plays for Lance during camp drills. Consider Garoppolo a dicey QB2 to begin the season and Lance a stash candidate with QB1 upside when he takes over as the starter.

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo ranks last among 32 qualified quarterbacks with a Big Time Throw percentage of 2.6 percent over the last two seasons, according to Pro Football Focus data.
Huddle Up: This is one of the reasons the Niners traded up to nab Trey Lance in the draft and why Jimmy G -- while he may be the team's starter for at least half of the season -- is outside of QB2 territory even in two-quarterback leagues.

San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance will be given 'every opportunity' to rise up the team's depth chart in training camp and perhaps challenge Jimmy Garoppolo for the starting job, according to NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco.
Huddle Up: Fantasy owners should expect Garoppolo to start the opener, but all bets are off after that - especially considering his injury history. Regardless of if Garoppolo stays healthy and holds down the job through October, the 49ers should be expected to work Lance in on occasion as a change-up. If and when Lance is named the starter, he will boast low-end QB1 upside.

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo is not expected to be acquired by the New England Patriots during the 2021 NFL Draft or in the near future in part because the Patriots do not have the salary cap space to add Garoppolo's contract.
Huddle Up: The 49ers have stated that Garoppolo will be their starter next season, but there is no guarantee that he will be with the team at the start of the season. Cam Newton probably is the leading candidate for the starting job with the Patriots but would only be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback.

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to the subject of multiple trade inquiries Thursday, April 29, but as of Thursday morning, the chances of Garoppolo being traded were 'remote,' according to a source.
Huddle Up: While Jimmy G hasn't been the most healthy or effective QB, he does have experience going for him, and that would be valuable early in the season with the Niners breaking in a rookie. Particularly if he's a raw rookie coming from the FCS level (Trey Lance).

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo's future with the 49ers is reportedly now seen as 'bleak,' and San Francisco is expected to make a 'major effort' to trade him before or during the 2021 NFL Draft, according to 105.7 The Fan's Jason La Canfora.
Huddle Up: The expectation has been that Garoppolo would be moved following next season after the 49ers make a decision on their future quarterback at No. 3 overall on Thursday. It would be a bit premature for the 49ers to simply move on from Garoppolo and roll with an inexperienced rookie - presumptive No. 3 favorites Trey Lance and Mac Jones each made a mere 17 career starts in college - in head coach Kyle Shanahan's sophisticated offensive scheme. Expect Garoppolo to stick with San Fran for a bit longer.

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo could become 'more available than he has been' and possibly be acquired for less than a first-round pick, in the opinion of NBC's Peter King.
Huddle Up: Garoppolo will be a backup in fantasy no matter where he plays. The position has that much depth right now.
