Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy was selected by the Minnesota Vikings with the 10th overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Huddle Up: It is not known if McCarthy or Sam Darnold will be the starting quarterback in 2024, so fantasy players should monitor the situation. McCarthy should be considered a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues if he wins the job.

Huddle Up: The Broncos just traded for QB Zach Wilson, which is telling and makes you think that they're unable to trade up to select their QB. McCarthy is a hot commodity, and he'll be an upside QB2 in fantasy that could start from the jump.

University of Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy reportedly would "love to come" to the Denver Broncos and the team is also reportedly "very interested" in him, according to former quarterback Peyton Manning on Denver Sports on Tuesday, April 23.
"I know Denver is very interested in him and it sounded like a place he'd love to come to but it's a little bit out of his control," Manning said.

University of Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy is reportedly a player who meets Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton's general requirements for a starting quarterback - outstanding intelligence and the ability to get rid of the ball quickly. According to Sportskeeda's Tony Pauline, there is talk that Payton is ready to give up "a king's ransom" to acquire McCarthy, Louisiana State University QB Jayden Daniels or University of North Carolina QB Drake Maye, with McCarthy being the most realistic option. Furthermore, there is a possibility Payton will be willing to include CB Patrick Surtain II to move up in the draft. Pauline also notes that Denver would consider trading down and taking University of Oregon QB Bo Nix if it cannot move up.
Huddle Up: There is a lot to unpack here, but one would have to believe that Daniels or Maye would have to be the target if Payton is willing to include Surtain in a deal as those two quarterbacks possess a theoretical upside that McCarthy does not. While McCarthy appears to be a better prospect than Nix, the Broncos may be wise to trade down and potentially add some more draft picks after giving up their second-round pick in the Russell Wilson trade in 2022.
