Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. (knee) may be cleared to participate in team drills before the end of offseason workouts, according to head coach Kevin Stefanski. Penix has been able to take part in seven-on-seven drills as part of his recovery.
Huddle Up: It seems like Penix should be at least a limited participant when training camp starts, but fantasy players can monitor the situation. He will be competing with Tua Tagovailoa for the starting job during training camp but will only be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he wins the job.

Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. (knee) is able to participate in individual drills and seven-on-seven drills but has not been cleared for team drills at this point, according to head coach Kevin Stefanski.
Huddle Up: Penix is making progress but may not take part in team drills until training camp. He is competing with Tua Tagovailoa for the starting job but will have to catch up because of the injury. He will only be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he wins the job.

Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. and QB Tua Tagovailoa will split first-team reps early in OTAs, according to head coach Kevin Stefanski.
Huddle Up: Neither quarterback has had a chance to prove themself yet, but whoever wins the job could have some fantasy value. This will be a quarterback battle to watch closely through training camp before making a judgment call on who is worth a late-round flier in drafts.

Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. (knee) is participating in throwing drills in Phase 2 of the team's offseason program. According to NFL rules, Phase 2 allows for individual and group instruction and drills but not a full-fledged practice with 11-on-11s or 7-on-7s.
Huddle Up: Penix is six months removed from another ACL tear and now Tua Tagovailoa is in town contending for the starting role. Penix is probably avoidable in fantasy drafts, but he could warrant a waiver claim later in the season.

Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. (knee) is in a good spot, according to president of football operations Matt Ryan, but they don't know what to expect for training camp.
Huddle Up: They're probably going to slow play this and see if Tua Tagovailoa can give them a shot to win. Both are QB2 options in single-year formats if they win the starting job.

Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. (knee) is on schedule with his rehab from a torn anterior cruciate ligament but does not have a definite timetable at this time, according to head coach Kevin Stefanski.
Huddle Up: Fantasy players can monitor the situation, but there is a good chance that Penix is not on the field until training camp. He will be competing with Tua Tagovailoa for the starting job once he is cleared to return but will only be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he starts.

Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. (knee) will not be rushed back, and he won't rush his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, according to head coach Kevin Stefanski.
Huddle Up: You can probably plan on Tua Tagovailoa starting at least the first few weeks with Penix a possibility around Week 5 or 6. Either way, neither QB possesses a ton of fantasy value and are midrange QB2s.

Atlanta Falcons QB Tua Tagovailoa has "a real chance" to earn the starting job over QB Michael Penix Jr., according to Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network.
Huddle Up: With Penix returning from a knee injury, Tagovailoa could be the starter to by default to begin the season. However, it sounds like Tagovailoa could claim the job permanently. Regardless of who is under center for the Falcons, they are likely to provide QB2 production for fantasy owners.

Atlanta Falcons QB Tua Tagovailoa, who recently signed a one-year deal with the Falcons, said he's willing to do whatever QB Michael Penix Jr. needs. "I look at myself when I was a rookie and I was very grateful for the chance that I had with someone like Ryan Fitzpatrick," Tagovailoa said. "I think whatever I can do to help Mike's game will help me because if I'm helping getting him better, it's helping me get better, vice versa, we're then helping the team get better."
Huddle Up: Penix is recovering from a torn ACL and may need a few weeks to get back during the season. Tugovailoa could start the first month, and the results would determine where the team goes from there. Either way, these two are QB2s in fantasy without a lot of upside this season.

Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent QB Joe Flacco could join the Atlanta Falcons after free agency begins, as an insurance plan in case QB Michael Penix Jr. (knee) is not ready to play at the beginning of the 2026 season, according to ESPN.com's Dan Graziano. He previously played under head coach Kevin Stefanski as a member of the Cleveland Browns in 2023 and 2025. Other unnamed NFL teams have also expressed interest in Flacco this offseason.
