Cincinnati Bengals WR Jermaine Burton has "matured" and "in a good spot mentally and physically," according to recent comments made by Joe Burrow. "I think he's stepped up this year so far. Has taken it very seriously. Has matured, it seems like. Based on the conversations that we have had, he's in a good spot mentally and physically. And he's been working hard, which is exciting to see," Burrow told Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com.
Huddle Up: Burrow's comments come days after head coach Zac Taylor offered similar sentiments. Burton needs to have a good summer to dig himself out of the hole he created for himself as a rookie, but it sounds like he is off to a good start. A focused Burton could do wonders for the Bengals, likely making defenses pay more often than anyone else did last year for focusing too much on Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Burton can still be left on waivers in redraft leagues, but more positive reports out of Cincinnati could change that.

Cincinnati Bengals WR Jermaine Burton has "attacked practice the right way (this offseason)," according to head coach Zac Taylor. "All he can handle is the present at this point. I think he's done a good job of that this offseason. He's been in the building. He's in the building outside of work hours, doing his own thing, prehabbing to get his body right. He has attacked practice the right way and that is what you can control right now so I appreciate that much," Taylor told SI.com's Jay Morrison.
Huddle Up: It is clear from Taylor's quote that Burton's rookie season bothered the coach in a big way. Burton entered with concerns about his maturity and did little to disprove them in 2024, as he reportedly arrived late to meetings, no-showed practice and was evicted from his apartment. A focused Burton would certainly be worth a roster spot in most fantasy leagues and make an already-dynamic passing game almost unstoppable, so managers would be wise to monitor practice reports about his progress this summer.

Cincinnati Bengals WR Jermaine Burton "has done nothing" and will "have to start doing something quickly" if he hopes to remain with the team much longer, according to director of personnel Duke Tobin.
Huddle Up: Tobin did not hold back on his assessment of Burton's rookie season, acknowledging that the Bengals knew they were taking a risk when they drafted him but suggesting that the 2024 third-round draft pick needs to be much more accountable for his actions. The director of personnel also noted in this interview that while he wants Tee Higgins back, it will be hard to keep him from hitting the open market. If Burton gets his head on straight, he could easily be Higgins' replacement if the latter leaves as a free agent. However, Burton did virtually nothing to make Cincinnati believe he is ready for that kind of role in 2025.

Cincinnati Bengals WR Jermaine Burton (coach's decision) will not travel with the team and has been ruled out for Week 18 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Huddle Up: It's been a mostly forgettable season for the hyped rookie, who fell in the draft due to character concerns. Burton has done little to make the Bengals forget about those issues, as he has been punished by the team in one way or another multiple times this season. There is a very real chance Cincinnati will move on from the third-round pick this offseason. If the Bengals hold on to him, he will be on very thin ice.

Cincinnati Bengals WR Jermaine Burton hauled in a 47-yard catch among his two targets in Week 2 versus the Kansas City Chiefs.
Huddle Up: The Bengals discussed the need to get Burton on the field this week and he paid it off with a nice over-the-shoulder catch in this one. Burton is by all accounts the fourth wide receiver in this offense at best when everyone is healthy and he hasn't earned much playing time yet despite one of the key targets (Tee Higgins) inactive for the first two games. Burton is worth monitoring but leaving on the waiver wire for now, especially with Higgins expected to make his season debut in Week 3.

Cincinnati Bengals WR Jermaine Burton (toe) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 6, and is not on the injury report for Week 1.
Huddle Up: Burton may be involved right away because of the uncertain statuses of Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. He could receive a good amount of targets this week and could be a possible flex option in some leagues.
