Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes will start in team's preseason opener Saturday, Aug. 10, and will be followed by Chad Henne, Kyle Shurmur and Chase Litton in the quarterback rotation.
Huddle Up: A bit unusual to see such a prominent player taking the field this early in the preseason, and Mahomes' dynasty-league owners and Chiefs fans will no doubt be hoping for a quick hook.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes says he's well on his way to shedding three to five percent of his body fat by training camp as he's well into an offseason running and weight-lifting regimen. 'I've gotten more muscular and (have) less baby fat, I guess you would say,' Mahomes said in a Yahoo Sports article published Tuesday, June 2. 'So that's been the big thing for me -- sculpting my body in the best way possible so I can go through the season and feel just as fresh at the end as I did at the beginning.'
Huddle Up: Sure, we all know regression is coming for Mahomes after 5,097 yards and 50 TDs -- and that will be accelerated with WR TYreek Hill's expected suspension -- but he's still the near-consensus QB1 in most pre-draft rankings.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes said that he would work on his footwork during the period between minicamp and training camp. He said that he misses many plays because his feet are in the wrong position and he relies too heavily on his arm.
Huddle Up: Generally speaking, it is an ill-advised strategy to select a quarterback in the first round of fantasy football drafts but Mahomes may be the exception to that rule. The defending Most Valuable Player is worthy of consideration as the top quarterback off the board in all formats.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes came through with a big-time throw on an NFL-best 12.97 percent of his attempts under pressure last season.
Huddle Up: Even if Mahomes suffers a bit of a sophomore slump (in what technically will be his third season) he still should finish among the top-five fantasy QBs after totaling 74 more fantasy points than any other QB in 2018.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has been banned by the team from playing basketball after general manager Brett Veach saw a recent online video of Mahomes playing in a pick-up hoops game. 'As soon as I saw (video of Mahomes playing basketball), it probably took me about two seconds to call his agent and tell him that was a big no-no,' Veach said Thursday during an interview on Kansas City radio station WHB 810 AM. 'The (Chiefs') Kingdom can rest assured that we have that under control: No more basketball for Pat.'
Huddle Up: Mahomes' dynasty owners have Veach's back after Mahomes earned league MVP honors in his second season and finished with 74 more fantasy points than any other player.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes was announced as the 2019 NFL's Most Valuable Player Saturday, Feb. 2.
Huddle Up: There was no doubt that Mahomes was deserving of the honor after throwing for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns. Quarterbacks aren't traditionally selected in the first round of fantasy drafts, but Mahomes would be the exception if one were to use that strategy.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes completed 16 of his 31 passes for 295 yards and three touchdowns and rushed twice for 11 yards in a 37-31 loss to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 20.
Huddle Up: Mahomes led the Chiefs back from an early deficit, but he never saw the ball overtime. His impressive season doesn't end with a Super Bowl appearance, but it will put him in the conversation to be the first quarterback selected in drafts in 2019.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes will be able to sign a contract extension after the 2019 season and could become the first NFL player to receive a $200 million contract, according to sources.
Huddle Up: Mahomes has been one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL this season despite it being his first year as a starter. He should continue to be one of the best quarterbacks for years to come and likely will be one of the first quarterbacks selected in fantasy drafts in 2019.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is one of four quarterbacks to post at least 350 passing yards, four touchdowns and a 110 passer rating in a game versus the New England Patriots since 2001. Mahomes threw for 352 yards and had four TDs with a 110.0 rating in a 43-40 loss at New England in Week 6.
Huddle Up: Mahomes is at home this time, but it also means Bill Belichick and Co. will be getting their second shot at defending the likely league MVP. Expect Mahomes to put up decent numbers Sunday, but betting against Belichick and expecting another monster Mahomes game is unrealistic.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes completed 27 of 41 passes for 278 yards and ran for eight yards and a touchdown in a divisional playoff win versus the Indianapolis Colts Saturday, Jan. 12.
Huddle Up: It's a rarity for Mahomes to have a goose egg in the passing touchdown column. The Colts did a good job overall holding Mahomes in check, but the Chiefs won easily anyway. Mahomes is far and away the best fantasy quarterback heading into the 2019 season.
