Pittsburgh Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth is envisioning an expanded role in the offense for 2026, as head coach Mike McCarthy has always used tight ends as a productive part of his offense. In McCarthy's previous five seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, his leading tight end averaged 65.6 receptions per season. "I like my role in the offense," Freiermuth said Sunday, May 31. "I see my role increasing for sure. But I have to show up every single day and earn what I want my role to be."
Huddle Up: Freiermuth was a forgotten man in 2025, limited to 41 receptions for 486 yards despite being healthy for every game. He was targeted 54 times, the same as Jonnu Smith, who has since been released. Now, Freiermuth and Darnell Washington as the only true tight ends on the roster. Freiermuth could, potentially, return to low-end TE1 fantasy status in leagues of 12 or more teams, but draft him in the later rounds as a TE2, and hope for a bounce back.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth had his contract restructured Saturday, May 23, according to multiple sources. The move allows the team to free up some salary cap space for the 2026 season. Pittsburgh turned a portion of Freiermuth's $7.6 base salary for the upcoming campaign into a roster bonus, after he had already earned a $1.3 million roster bonus back in March.
Huddle Up: The 27-year-old Freiermuth is coming off a down year, with just 41 catches for 486 yards and four touchdowns in 2025 while splitting time at tight end with Jonnu Smith and Darnell Washington. If he can regain his snap count in the upcoming season, he has potential as a low-end TE1 option.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth is not available for trade this offseason after teams have explored his availability, per a source on Monday, March 2.
Huddle Up: Freiermuth had his worst season as a pro, playing all 17 games and barely averaging over three targets per game. With just 41 receptions and four touchdowns in 2025, while splitting time on the field with Jonnu Smith, Darnell Washington and Connor Heyward. Freiermuth's stock has lost a lot of luster entering 2026. The Steelers offense remains one that prefers to run the ball and play good defense, so the team's pass attempts will remain low. For fantasy, it's best not to draft Freiermuth right now in the early stages of the offseason unless something drastically shakes up this Steelers' passing game.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers connected on 17 of his 33 passing attempts for 146 yards, zero touchdowns, and an interception in a loss to the Houston Texans on Wild Card Weekend. Rodgers was sacked four times and fumbled twice, losing one. RB Jaylen Warren had 12 carries for 43 yards; he added a four-yard reception. RB Kenneth Gainwell picked up 20 yards on six carries, and he also caught four passes for 26 yards. WR DK Metcalf had two receptions for 42 yards; he was targeted five times. WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling logged 26 yards on three receptions. WR Adam Thielen posted two receptions for 25 yards. WR Calvin Austin was held to three catches and eight yards. TE Pat Freiermuth had an 18-yard reception for his lone catch, while TE Jonnu Smith turned two receptions into minus-one yard. LB Patrick Queen led the club with 10 tackles, including seven solo. CB Brandin Echols was credited with three stops and had an interception in the loss.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth caught three of five targeted passes for 51 yards against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 18.
Huddle Up: With Darnell Washington (forearm) done for the season, Freiermuth is filling a larger role, and he's clearly working ahead of Jonnu Smith in the tight end hierarchy. Over the last four games, Freiermuth has posted 45, 20, 63, and 51 yards, respectively. That affords him some long-shot appeal against the Texans as someone that could work shorter routes to help Aaron Rodgers get the ball out quickly.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth caught three of five targets for 63 yards in a Week 17 loss to the Cleveland Browns.
Huddle Up: Freiermuth posted his second-most yards in a game this season (111 yards vs. Cincinnati in Week 7) while posting 3+ receptions in his third straight game. Splitting snaps with Darnell Washington and Jonnu Smith, Freiermuth has just 38 catches this season after 60+ in three of his first four seasons. He has low-end TE1 potential if he can regain his snap count next season.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth absorbed all four of his receptions for 20 yards in Week 16 against the Detroit Lions.
Huddle Up: The catch total was fine, but the yardage total was weak. He is averaging 3.0 receptions per game in the past three outings, but that makes him only worth a look as a low-end TE2 these days in PPR league, with lesser appeal in standard play.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth caught three passes (on five targets) for 45 yards during the team's Week 15 victory over the Miami Dolphins.
Huddle Up: Freiermuth's 45-yard effort on Monday night was his second-highest output of the season. Over his previous two games, he'd managed just nine yards combined. When the downside is that low, and 45 yards is basically the ceiling, you aren't worth a roster spot in fantasy leagues.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth went without a catch or target in Week 13 against the Buffalo Bills.
Huddle Up: Freiermuth was once a fantasy staple, but his role has shrunk lately. He has just four catches for 38 yards and a touchdown in the past three games, and he has 33 or fewer yards in each of his past six games, and 11 of 12 outings this season. He cannot be trusted in this critical juncture of the fantasy football season.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth caught all three of his targets for 19 yards in a Week 12 loss to the Chicago Bears.
Huddle Up: Freiermuth now has 26 receptions for 298 yards and three touchdowns this season. Other than 111 receiving yards and two touchdowns in Week 7 against Cincinnati, Freiermuth has been a non-factor in fantasy.
