San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy (elbow) is scheduled to undergo surgery on his ulnar collateral ligament in his right throwing elbow on Friday, March 10. With a six-month recovery expected, Purdy's initial timeline to return to football will be the second week of September.
Huddle Up: If things go as expected, Purdy should be able to start throwing football sometime in June, although he will need roughly three months to build up strength in his arm. It seems like an ambitious timeline given the fact Purdy had to wait over a month to get the swelling in his elbow to subside so he could have the surgery. Fantasy managers need to keep tabs on Purdy's recovery, but it seems very likely the 49ers will go into the season with Trey Lance starting and a veteran backing him up.

San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy (elbow) is scheduled to undergo surgery on his right elbow injury Friday, March 10.
Huddle Up: Whether Purdy needs to have his elbow reconstructed or repaired remains a mystery that will not be solved until after the surgery is underway. The fact Purdy had to wait until early-to-mid March for the swelling to go down enough to have the surgery makes it unlikely he will be ready for the start of the 2023 season, much less the initial goal of training camp. Trey Lance will likely be given every chance to start Week 1 and hold onto the job.

San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy (elbow) is expected to have surgery next week to repair his torn UCL, according to a source Friday, March 3. Purdy's initial surgery was delayed due to ongoing swelling.
Huddle Up: The hope is that Purdy will still be ready for the start of the season, but it's far too early to tell at this point. He provided some stream-worthy weeks late in the season and could compete with Trey Lance for the starting role.

San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy (elbow) will not have elbow surgery when originally scheduled because of inflammation in the elbow, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. He is still expected to be ready for the start of the 2023 regular season despite the delay.
Huddle Up: Fantasy players will need to monitor the situation because Purdy has a chance to be the starting quarterback for the 49ers in 2023. He played well after taking over this past season but probably will be a No. 2 quarterback in most leagues if he keeps the job.

San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy (elbow) said he could undergo a more complex elbow surgery depending on what the doctor does during the surgery. He is expected to miss six months if it is an internal brace surgery, but his timetable is uncertain if more is done to the elbow.
Huddle Up: Fantasy players will need to keep an eye on the situation because Purdy may be uncertain for training camp depending on the type of surgery. He probably will have a chance to compete for the starting job if he is ready for camp and would be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he is the starter.

San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy (elbow) will undergo surgery to repair his torn ulnar collateral ligament on Wednesday, Feb. 22, but is expected to be ready by training camp, per sources on Wednesday, Feb. 8.
Huddle Up: Purdy will avoid Tommy John surgery, which would have knocked him out for a year-plus. With the Tom Brady to Niners scenario dead, Purdy is set to compete for the starting job with Trey Lance in 2023, and he should have the leg up after impressing during his rookie campaign. Purdy should be rostered in dynasty formats and could return high-end QB2 value should he win the job, if his first season was any indication of what's to come.

San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy (elbow) appears likely to undergo the surgery that will place an internal brace in his elbow to address the torn ulnar collateral ligament he suffered in his right arm in the NFC Championship. The internal brace option is expected to sideline him for six months, whereas Tommy John surgery would likely force him to miss the entire 2023 season.
Huddle Up: The internal brace option would have Purdy undergo a procedure to repair the UCL with a collagen-coated suture tape to provide stability to the repaired ligament, which requires a three-month recovery. He would need an additional three months to build his elbow back up to the rigors of playing quarterback. A six-month recovery beginning sometime in the next week or two would allow Purdy to take part in the bulk of training camp, where it is expected he will battle for the starting job with Trey Lance.

San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy (elbow) has been diagnosed with a complete tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and is scheduled to undergo surgery, according to sources. He is receiving second opinions, but the team hopes he will be ready for training camp.
Huddle Up: Purdy was successful as the starting quarterback this season, but may be behind Trey Lance on the depth chart when training camp starts. Purdy will be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he keeps the starting job.

Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy (elbow) is believed to have suffered an ulnar collateral ligament tear during the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to sources. He'll undergo an MRI on Monday, Jan. 30. The team is hopeful the ligament is not ruptured, as it would only be a six-week recovery period.
