Updating a previous report, Chicago Bears TE Colston Loveland (shoulder) recently told Mike Berman of NBC Chicago that his surgically repaired shoulder is 100% but that he did not know if he would be on the field at the start of training camp.
Huddle Up: Officially, Loveland told Berman "TBD" when asked about the start of camp. While there is a chance the Bears take a while to ramp Loveland up, it seems unlikely he will miss enough time to hurt his chances of contributing as a rookie. Even with Chicago having an embarrassment of riches at receiver and tight end with DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, Luther Burden and Cole Kmet, it should surprise no one if Loveland finds a way to be a low-end TE1 in 2025.

Chicago Bears TE Colston Loveland (shoulder) hosted his first football camp for kids last week, but he was seen throwing the ball only with his left hand while helping out at the camp. Loveland told Aaron McMann of MLive.com that he will not have a full sense of how his recovery from offseason shoulder surgery went until he reports to training camp at the end of this week. "It's been good. There haven't really been live bullets flying yet. We'll really know in camp once I get out there, doing a lot more stuff," Loveland said.
Huddle Up: This is not exactly the news fantasy managers wanted to hear this close to the start of camp, but we also have no idea if has been told to be cautious with throwing since the surgery was on the AC joint in his right shoulder. This news should not keep dynasty managers from selecting Loveland in the first round of late rookie drafts, but redraft managers should monitor his participation in camp closely since he did not practice at all during the spring. A late start to training camp would almost certainly keep him from performing at a low-end TE1 level in 2025.

Chicago Bears TE Colston Loveland (shoulder) was named as the choice for "best rookie in the NFC North" by three of the four ESPN writers that were polled. All three drew parallels to Detroit Lions TE Sam LaPorta, who had 86 receptions and 10 touchdowns during his rookie year when new head coach Ben Johnson was the offensive coordinator in Detroit, though ESPN's Kevin Seifert suggested Loveland could get off to a slow start due to veteran TE Cole Kmet being an established contributor.
Huddle Up: Johnson's previous work with LaPorta is sure to push Loveland up draft boards, though whether he deserves to be viewed as a legitimate TE1 is debatable. Looking at the position overall, things seem to thin out around TE8, and then it becomes more of a "beauty in the eye of the beholder type of thing" with names like Evan Engram, Jonnu Smith, Tucker Kraft, Dallas Godert, Jake Ferguson, and Dalton Kincaid in that TE9-TE15 range. You could certainly make a case based on talent, fit, and opportunity that Loveland could outperform all of them, though the presence of Kmet, not to mention DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, and Luther Burden, might lead to fewer opportunities than some are anticipating.

Chicago Bears TE Colston Loveland (shoulder) is still recovering from a shoulder injury, and head coach Ben Johnson would not say if Loveland will be a full participant when training camp begins.
Huddle Up: It seems like Loveland will be back on the field at some point during camp and should be ready to play Week 1. He probably will see a limited workload during his rookie season unless Cole Kmet suffers and injury and will only be a possible No. 2 tight end in deeper fantasy leagues.

Chicago Bears TE Colston Loveland (shoulder) and TE Stephen Carlson (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Wednesday, June 4.

Chicago Bears TE Colston Loveland is "going to catch a million balls," according to an NFL executive. "He will be better than Sam LaPorta," the executive said.
Huddle Up: Loveland will have plenty of competition for targets, but head coach Ben Johnson was able to utilize a variety of weapons during his time as the offensive coordinator in Detroit. Consider Loveland a TE2 with upside.

Chicago Bears TE Colston Loveland (shoulder) did not participate in practice Friday, May 9, because he is recovering from shoulder surgery, according to head coach Ben Johnson.
Huddle Up: Loveland has plenty of time to rehab his shoulder and likely will be ready for training camp. He should see a handful of targets each game and can be a No. 2 tight end in fantasy leagues.

Chicago Bears first-round draft choice TE Colston Loveland signed a four-year contract with the Bears Thursday, May 8, worth $26.64 million. The deal includes a $16.01 million signing bonus as well as a fifth-year option.
Huddle Up: Loveland should have a role in the passing game right away but probably will not be a starting fantasy option to start the season. Fantasy players can consider him a No. 2 fantasy tight end entering the 2025 season.

Chicago Bears first-round draft choice TE Colston Loveland (Michigan) was told by new head coach Ben Johnson at his pro day that the No. 10 overall pick reminded him "a lot" of Sam LaPorta.
Huddle Up: Loveland probably will not see the field until training camp as he continues to recover from shoulder surgery, but it obviously bodes well that Johnson thinks that highly of him. The difference between the two situations is that Loveland will face immediate competition for snaps from a good tight end in Cole Kmet (LaPorta did not have that during Johnson's tenure in Detroit) and Chicago has more competition for targets (DJ Moore, Rome Odunze and Luther Burden) than LaPorta did.

Chicago Bears TE Colston Loveland (shoulder) underwent shoulder surgery in January, but Bears senior director of player personnel Jeff King said Loveland is expected to be ready for the start of training camp.
