Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott rushed eight times for 17 yards in a 47-9 loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 6.
Huddle Up: Elliott continues to struggle running the ball, and for the second game in a row, he didn't have a reception. There is no reason to hold on to Elliott at this point.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott rushed six times for 17 yards and did not catch his only target in Week 5 versus the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Huddle Up: Rico Dowdle handled the ball 22 times, making it clear that he is now the lead - if not the featured - back. Elliott's role in the offense has declined dramatically since Week 1 to the point where he can probably be dropped in most leagues. Even in the middle of the bye-week season, managers can do better - especially in Week 6 against the stingy run defense of the Detroit Lions.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott (illness) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 4, and is not on the injury report for Week 5.
Huddle Up: Elliott likely will see a limited amount of carries in the running game this week against the Pittsburgh Steelers but should be avoided in fantasy leagues.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott (illness) was limited during practice Thursday, Oct. 3.
Huddle Up: Elliott was dealing with dehydration and should be fine for the Week 5 game. He has been held to under 20 yards in each of the last three games and probably can be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott posted five carries for 19 yards against the New York Giants on Thursday, Sept. 26. He added one reception (on one target) for five yards.
Huddle Up: In three games since posting 49 yards and a tuddy in Week 1, Elliott has totaled 32, 12, and 24 total yards, respectively. He's logged fewer touches than backfield mate Rico Dowdle in each of those three contests as well. While Elliott wasn't viewed as more than a low-end RB3 or flex candidate coming into the season, the veteran is currently falling well short of that designation. He should be kept on the bench for the time being, and those in standard formats could even consider him expendable if a roster spot is needed.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott rushed three times for just six yards in Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens, and he had one grab for six yards on two targets.
Huddle Up: The Cowboys fell behind early, and were getting blown out for three quarters, so Zeke's role shrunk significantly. Rico Dowdle is better at catching the ball out of the backfield, so he was the tailback for most of the second half, totaling 11 touches to Elliott's four. We'll see what the breakdown is heading into Week 4 against the New York Giants on the road Thursday. It's concerning, as Zeke was already a RB3 or flex play in most fantasy leagues, and his arrow is definitely pointing down right now.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 16 yards on six carries against the New Orleans Saints in Week 2. He also caught two passes for 16 yards during the game.
Huddle Up: Elliott has been sharing playing time with Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn over the first two games but did not have much success against the Saints. He probably will receive a similar workload next week and can be avoided in fantasy leagues.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott rushed 10 times for a team-best 40 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns, while adding two receptions for nine yards on two targets.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott will likely be the starting running back this season, but head coach Mike McCarthy sounds certain that as many as three running backs will be handling work - even if he doesn't know who the committee members are yet. "Two or three (running backs), whatever it takes. ... I think you have to pay attention. Whether it's two or whether it's three, frankly, to be honest with you, the players will determine that," McCarthy told ESPN.
Huddle Up: It appears more likely than not that Elliott will handle the bulk of the early-down work, while Rico Dowdle operates as his primary backup. Deuce Vaughn should be considered the favorite to handle most of the passing-down work and could end up carving out more of a role in the offense as the summer progresses, as he has the skill set to be used like Tony Pollard before 2023 - even if he lacks the size.

Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said the team will use a running back by committee approach this season, unlike the feature back approach used during RB Ezekiel Elliott's first tour of duty with the team. McCarthy said that he has not seen any drop off in the way Elliott moves but thinks it wouldn't be fair to give him a workload similar to what he saw in the early seasons of his career.
Huddle Up: Elliott had the least productive season of his career with New England in 2023, with career lows in carries (184), rushing yards (642), touchdowns (three) and yards per carry (3.5). Although he is expected to have a larger role in the Dallas offense in 2024, his days as an RB1 fantasy option are likely over. Elliott is most likely to see the field in short-yardage and goal line situations, making him worthy of consideration as an RB3 in many fantasy leagues. RBs Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn are behind Elliott on the Cowboys' depth chart but their fantasy value remains uncertain, as it remains to be seen how many offensive snaps they will see in a typical game.
