Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff absorbed a league-high 69 hits while throwing a pass in 2023, according to Pro Football Reference. Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (65) was the only other quarterback to be hit more than 60 times.
Huddle Up: The 69 hits are 16 more than he absorbed in 2022. The Lions arguably upgraded what was already a very good offensive line with the addition of Kevin Zeitler during the offseason, so the number of hits Goff takes in 2024 should decrease by a decent amount. Goff is generating some early league MVP buzz and has the supporting cast to enjoy his finest season to date if he can stay healthy. He isn't much of a run threat, but Detroit's offense might be so good that he could finish as a top-five fantasy quarterback anyway.

Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff attempted 151 play-action passes for 1,415 yards last season, according to Pro Football Reference. Both marks were easily league highs.
Huddle Up: Goff attempted 605 throws last season, so he executed play-action on about a quarter of his throws. We have known for some time in fantasy circles that play-action passes are worth more in fantasy and are generally more effective passing plays, so this is usage managers like to see While play-action pass attempts in Detroit likely threaten defenses more than other teams because of who else is in the backfield (David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs), this stat further explains why Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta were able to enjoy so much success in the intermediate part of the field last season.

Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension with the Lions Monday, May 13, worth $212 million, according to sources. The deal includes $170 million in guaranteed money.
Huddle Up: Goff will be the starting quarterback for the Lions for the foreseeable future and is coming off a terrific 2023 season. He could be a possible low-end No. 1 fantasy quarterback in deeper leagues but probably will be a No. 2 quarterback in most standard leagues that can also be a starting option against favorable matchups.

Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff said he has started contract extension talks with the Lions but would not say how advanced the talks are at this time.
Huddle Up: Goff probably will receive a contract extension at some point, so fantasy players can monitor the situation. He has thrown for at least 4,400 yards in each of the last two seasons but probably will be a high-end No. 2 quarterback in most fantasy leagues.

Huddle Up: Goff is coming off an outstanding 2023 season and should remain with the Lions for the foreseeable future. He can be at least a No. 2 fantasy quarterback in fantasy leagues in 2024.
