Las Vegas Raiders QB Fernando Mendoza signed a four-year, $57.27 million deal that is fully guaranteed and includes a fifth-year option on Thursday, July 23.

Las Vegas Raiders QB Fernando Mendoza will reportedly receive some first-team reps at quarterback during training camp, according to a source on Tuesday, July 21.
Huddle Up: Mendoza should get to start this season, whether it's in Week 1 or sometime during the season. Or whenever the Raiders are tired of Kirk Cousins. Anyway, Mendoza has Brock Bowers, Ashton Jeanty, and not much else, so it could be lean times in 2026 for Mendoza. However, he has the talent to lift all boats in Las Vegas, so tread lightly in seasonal formats unless he is wildly impressive in his initial starts.

Las Vegas Raiders QB Kirk Cousins is the quarterback the Raiders hope to start for the entire season, but QB Fernando Mendoza can take over the starting job at some point if he picks things up quickly, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Huddle Up: Cousins seems to have a good chance to start Week 1, but he will likely lose the job if the Raiders fall out of playoff contention or even earlier depending on his play. Mendoza will still likely start at some point this season, but neither quarterback is more than a No. 2 fantasy option at this point.

Las Vegas Raiders first overall pick QB Fernando Mendoza has experienced growing pains in OTAs, particularly when playing under center.
Huddle Up: With Kirk Cousins in town, Mendoza doesn't figure to be a starting option for the first four to six weeks. He'll be a low-end QB2 option in single-year leagues and an obvious asset in dynasty leagues.

Las Vegas Raiders QB Fernando Mendoza said he has talked with minority owner Tom Brady since joining the Raiders and is learning from Brady how to be a team leader.
Huddle Up: Mendoza should be the starting quarterback for the Raiders early on in the season if he does not start Week 1 and will likely have some struggles like most rookie quarterbacks. He can be a possible No. 2 fantasy quarterback but is unlikely to be a starting option most weeks.

Las Vegas Raiders QB Fernando Mendoza has been "as advertised" during practices, according to head coach Klint Kubiak. "He has not disappointed," Kubiak said. "He's working his tail off."

Las Vegas Raiders first overall selection QB Fernando Mendoza lacks NFL traits, according to a coach in the ACC. The coach, whose team faced Mendoza when he was at Cal, said Mendoza's receivers helped him a lot. "He's a good decision-maker, but I don't think he's got the NFL traits," the coach said. "They're all back-shoulder (throws.) That's not working in the NFL. His receivers made plays to make him look better than he is. In the NFL, those throws are getting picked off."
Huddle Up: Take it with a grain of salt as Mendoza grew as a quarterback from his time at Cal. He'll need to continue to do that in the NFL - much like any quarterback that enters the league. Mendoza will be an upper-middle QB2 option in single-year fantasy leagues and a good dynasty chip to have.

Las Vegas Raiders QB Fernando Mendoza said he is adjusting to the footwork that comes with playing under center. "And with that, actually having an emphasis on those first two steps, on securing the snap and getting out of there, and being powerful with having quick feet," Mendoza said.
Huddle Up: After playing mostly in the shotgun in college, Mendoza is making the transition to playing under center while also learning a new offense. It still remains to be seen if it will Mendoza or Kirk Cousins under center in Week 1, but regardless, Mendoza should be the first quarterback selected in rookie drafts and has plenty of long-term upside.

Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza was selected by the Las Vegas Raiders with the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Huddle Up: The Raiders brought in Kirk Cousins, but it still wouldn't be a surprise to see Mendoza open the year as the starter. Whenever Mendoza does end up under center, he should be a QB2 with plenty of long-term upside.
