New York Jets WR Corey Davis, who announced his retirement last summer, applied for reinstatement to the NFL on Thursday, March 14. The Jets are expected to release Davis from the Reserve/Retired list on Thursday but may be interested in bringing him back on a new contract.

New York Jets WR Corey Davis was placed on the Reserve/Retired list Wednesday, Aug. 23.

New York Jets WR Corey Davis announced he is "stepping away" from football on Wednesday, Aug. 23.
Huddle Up: Davis was expected to be the No. 3 option in the Jets' offense in 2023, but that role will now go to Mecole Hardman. He has a chance to return flex value some weeks.

New York Jets WR Corey Davis (personal) remains out on personal leave, head coach Robert Saleh said on Wednesday, Aug. 23. Saleh would not comment on Davis' availability for Week 1, only saying the wide receiver can take "however long he needs."
Huddle Up: If Davis is unable to make it back for Week 1, it would be a boost to guys like Mecole Hardman and Randall Cobb, although, like Davis, neither would be higher than No. 3 in the pecking order. All three receivers can be avoided in re-draft leagues, barring injury to starters Garrett Wilson and/or Allen Lazard.

New York Jets WR Corey Davis (illness) is still not able to practice because of an illness.

New York Jets WR Corey Davis "will be on this team" in 2023, according to head coach Robert Saleh. Most notably, Saleh noted that Davis makes "big boy catches" and is a valued contributor as a blocker in the running game.
Huddle Up: There is a path for Davis to be the No. 2 receiver in New York after Garrett Wilson, but it would likely take Allen Lazard to fall on his face for it to happen considering the big contract he received (four years, $44 million). More likely, Davis will have to battle Mecole Hardman and Aaron Rodgers' buddy Randall Cobb for No. 3 duties.

New York Jets WR Corey Davis carries a salary-cap charge $11.2 million into the 2023 season, while $10.5 million of his salary for next year is not guaranteed. In short, his "dead cap" charge would be only $667,000. For those reasons, ESPN.com's Rich Cimini believes Davis could be released this offseason if he does not agree to a pay cut or is not traded.

New York Jets WR Corey Davis is a candidate to be released this offseason because the team can create $10.5 million in salary cap space if he is let go.
Huddle Up: Davis has not been a big factor in the passing game since joining the Jets and has been held to under 600 yards in each of the last two seasons. He should be on a roster next season but probably will not be a strong fantasy option.
