San Francisco 49ers WR Christian Kirk (calf) remained sidelined from practice Saturday, Aug. 8, as he continues to recover from a calf injury.
Huddle Up: Kirk is vying for a big role in the San Francisco offense opposite fellow offseason acquisition Mike Evans, who is also sidelined with a quadriceps injury. Deebo Samuel is also in the mix, as well as Jacob Cowing, DeMarcus Robinson, rookie De'Zhaun Stribling and Jordan Wilkins. If Kirk has win a starting job, he could be a low-key fantasy sleeper worth nabbing in the middle to late rounds. He could surprise if he is able to stay healthy.

San Francisco 49ers WR Christian Kirk reportedly walked off the field with a trainer midway through Sunday's practice session, but we should get some definitive word from acting HC Chris Foerster about Kirk, according to a source on Sunday, July 26.
Huddle Up: Kirk has been productive throughout his NFL career. Heading into his ninth NFL season, Kirk has been on the field for 21 of a possible 34 games due to various injuries, including two hamstring injuries last season. Kirk is battling for a WR3 role with second-round rookie De'Zhaun Stribling, but will likely go undrafted in the majority of seasonal fantasy football leagues this summer and early fall.

San Francisco 49ers WR De'Zhaun Stribling is competing for the starting slot receiver role with WRs Christian Kirk and Demarcus Robinson. He showed he could catch the ball across the middle during his time at Oklahoma State in 2024, but at Ole Miss in 2025, he struggled in the role. However, if he impresses, the belief is that he could start since the team is so invested in him, while Kirk and Robinson are considered expendable.
Huddle Up: Stribling is a player who has an opportunity to be the WR3 in San Francisco, but traditionally, that's a role with rather minimal fantasy appeal. As long as Mike Evans and Ricky Pearsall are healthy, Stribling's value in redraft leagues will be rather small. However, he is worthy of drafting in long-term keeper formats and deeper leagues.

San Francisco 49ers WR Christian Kirk and WR De'Zhaun Stribling will compete for the slot-receiver role. Kirk is also likely to be the backup at the Z spot.
Huddle Up: Kirk had an 84-1,108-8 breakout in 2022 and has fallen all the way to 28-239-1 last season with the Houston Texans. In this offense, he's worth the shot as a WR5. Mike Evans and Ricky Pearsall have dealt with injuries, and Kirk could slide up the depth chart to cover.

Free-agent WR Christian Kirk (Texans) agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers Monday, March 16, worth $6 million, according to sources.
Huddle Up: Kirk will likely be a slot receiver for the 49ers and has a chance to see a decent amount of targets in the passing game. He could be a possible late round pick in deeper leagues but will not be a weekly starting option because of the other pass catchers the 49ers have on the roster.
