Denver Broncos RB Javonte Williams is expected to take slightly more carries in 2022, according to ESPN's Jeff Legwold. ''With [Russell] Wilson at quarterback the Broncos aren't looking to be a run-first affair, but the play-action component in the passing game is important, as is protecting Wilson. Williams is expected to take slightly more carries this season, but [Nathaniel] Hackett has promised to keep the running backs busy, and there will be carries available,'' said Legwold.
Huddle Up: Even though the news of RB Melvin Gordon re-signing crushed any hopes of a high-end RB1 season for Williams, it still seems the Broncos will try to get him more involved. The split between Gordon and Williams in 2021 was as close to 50/50 as it gets. They both saw 203 carries while Gordon saw 38 targets, and Williams saw 53 targets. In Hackett's three seasons as offensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers, his RB1 averaged 208 carries per season while his RB2 averaged 132 carries. We should expect a similar split like 2021 for Williams and Gordon, but with the former graduating into Year 2, the Broncos may want to get him more involved. Both should continue to be viewed as RB2s with Williams getting a slight bump in PPR formats.

Denver Broncos RB Melvin Gordon will continue to share carries with RB Javonte Williams, according to offensive coordinator Justin Outten, and Outten declined to name either Gordon or Williams as the starter. 'With Gordon being in the system, it's going to be another opportunity for us to get another guy back there to run the outside zone in third-down situations,' Outten said. 'It's about having that one-two punch.'
Huddle Up: Although Outten didn't name a starter, he did seem to hint that Gordon would be used in more of a third-down role. While it remains to be seen how much of the load Gordon will shoulder in 2022, Williams is the Denver back to target in all fantasy formats with Gordon projecting as high-upside handcuff.

Free-agent RB Melvin Gordon (Broncos) is re-signing with the Denver Broncos after the two sides agreed to terms on a one-year deal worth up to $5 million Tuesday, April 26, according to a source.
Huddle Up: Gordon's return to Denver will likely hurt the ceiling of Javonte Williams a bit, but Williams should still enjoy a sizeable role in the offense. Regardless, Gordon becomes a backup worth rostering and a priority handcuff for fantasy owners.

Free-agent RB Melvin Gordon (Broncos) is in discussions with the Baltimore Ravens.
Huddle Up: Gordon was quietly the RB17 in PPR leagues last season. He'll be a low-end RB2 option wherever he goes.

Free-agent RB Melvin Gordon (Broncos) hasn't received much interest in free agency, but Denver general manager George Paton said the door is still open for Gordon's return. As previously reported, Gordon expressed interested in returning to the Broncos in December of 2021. He'll need to accept a team-friendly deal, however.
Huddle Up: In the event Gordon returns, he's likely to take a lesser role behind second-year RB Javonte Williams. The Broncos dramatically upgraded with the acquisition of QB Russell Wilson, and it's unclear whether the offense can sustain two backs in fantasy for more than a few games of the year. Should he come back to Denver, Gordon is a handcuff to Williams and an occasional flex play.

Free-agent RB Melvin Gordon (Broncos) has mutual interest in returning to the Denver Broncos.
Huddle Up: Gordon has been productive for what he has been asked to do, and he'll be a low-end RB2 if his role remains the same.

Denver Broncos impending free-agent RB Melvin Gordon could very well end up re-signing with the team, according to recent comments made by general manager George Paton. 'I've had really good discussions with Melvin. I'd like to have him back,' Paton said.
Huddle Up: Similar things are being said about most teams' free agents as we quickly move toward the official start of free agency. With that said, it is quite possible new head coach Nathaniel Hackett envisions the same kind of backfield split in Denver with Gordon and Javonte Williams that he had in Green Bay with Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon this year (and Jones and Jamaal Williams before that). Fantasy managers with early drafts are rolling the dice by pinning their hopes on Javonte Williams being the featured back in Denver in 2022.

Denver Broncos impending free-agent RB Melvin Gordon said that if he returns to Denver in 2022 that he doesn't plan to be the backup to RB Javonte Williams. 'I know eventually they want him to be the guy and to take over,' Gordon said. 'And the thing is, I'm still fairly young and I still want to compete at a high level. I just don't wanna take a back seat.'
Huddle Up: Gordon rushed for more than 900 yards and scored 10 total touchdowns while sharing backfield duties with Williams, but Williams' role is only going to grow. If Gordon wants any chance to remain a lead back moving forward, it will likely mean leaving Denver.

Denver Broncos QB Drew Lock completed 12-of-24 throws for 162 yards without a touchdown Saturday, Jan. 8, vs. the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 18. He didn't turn over the ball and rushed for two scores on four carries for 35 yards. RB Melvin Gordon, who lost a scoop-and-score fumble, ran 12 times for 110 yards and a touchdown, chipping in a six-yard grab on his lone reception. RB Javonte Williams carried the ball 12 times for 46 yards and caught both of his targets for 16 yards. WR Tim Patrick led the team with six catches for 95 yards. WR Jerry Jeudy finished with two catches for 30 yards on five targets, and WR Courtland Sutton caught one of his three targets for 13 yards. Sutton also threw a 16-yard pass. TE Noah Fant was held to a 16-yard catch on his only reception (two targets). CB Michael Ojemudia paced the defense with 11 tackles (eight solo) and tallied two passes defensed.

Denver Broncos RB Melvin Gordon (hip, thumb) fully participated in practice Thursday, Jan. 6, and is not on the injury report for Week 18.
Huddle Up: Gordon will continue to receive a good amount of carries this week even though he continues to share playing time with Javonte Williams. Gordon can be at least a flex option this week against the Kansas City Chiefs.
