Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Sept. 1.
Huddle Up: Smith will miss at least three weeks of the season but is expected to miss majority of the 2021 season. Tyler Conklin and Chris Herndon will be the main tight ends for the Vikings, but neither is a starting fantasy option at this point.

Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith (knee) underwent surgery to repair his meniscus Wednesday, Sept. 1. He'll be out four to five months, which likely ends his season.
Huddle Up: The Vikings picked up Chris Herndon yesterday, and he'll likely run with the starters. He's a definite downgrade from Smith, but he's serviceable. He'll be a matchup play as a TE2 in fantasy.

Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith (knee) is expected to undergo surgery to repair a meniscus injury and will miss at least the start of the regular season, according to sources. It is not known how long Smith will be sidelined.
Huddle Up: Smith may be a candidate to start the season on the Reserve/Injured list if he is expected to be sidelined for multiple weeks. He should return at some point this season and can be a No. 2 fantasy tight end.

Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith caught two touchdown passes in the red zone during practice Wednesday, Aug. 4, and Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com believes that the red zone targets that have belonged to New York Giants TE Kyle Rudolph in recent years will be 'passed onto' Smith this season.
Huddle Up: Smith is set to take over as the top tight end in Minnesota with Rudolph out of the picture, and the opportunity for more touchdowns only further boosts his ceiling in what should be a career year. If you wait to address the position in your draft, Smith is an intriguing low-end TE1 candidate.

Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith is no longer sharing time with TE Kyle Rudolph and is expecting a big jump in production. 'I have very high expectations, especially for myself,' Smith said Thursday, July 15 on NFL Network. 'I don't want to put an exact number out there because I don't want to say 'I'm gonna score 15 touchdowns or however many,' but it's gonna be a lot. I'm going to be scoring a lot, making a lot of plays and helping my offense in any way, helping my team.'
Huddle Up: Rudolph averaged 55.7 targets, 43.7 targets and 3.3 TDs over his final three seasons with the Vikings, and Smith, who caught 30-of-43 targets for 365 yards and five TDs last season, could see an 33-percent increase or more in those numbers now as the clear TE1 in the Twin Cities. Value him as a high-end TE2 with upside for fantasy.

Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith showed up to OTAs in 'phenomenal shape' after changing his diet, according to offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. 'I want him to be himself, and now he's going to have more opportunities, and I'm excited to see what he does with it,' Kubiak said.
Huddle Up: The departure of Kyle Rudolph this offseason makes Smith the top tight end in Minnesota. He will still be competing with two star receivers and running back Dalvin Cook for targets and touches, but Smith is positioned to be a TE1 candidate.

Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith caught six passes for 53 yards and two touchdowns against the New Orleans Saints in Week 16. He was targeted nine times during the game.
Huddle Up: Smith has become a bigger factor in the passing game over the last several weeks and his nine targets were a season high for him. He should have a favorable matchup next week and can be a No. 1 tight end in most fantasy leagues.

Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith Jr. had four receptions for a game-high 63 yards and a touchdown on four targets in Week 14 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Huddle Up: Smith was filling in for the injured Kyle Rudolph (foot), and he showed what he can do as a starter and it was quite impressive. Smith is the future in Minneapolis, and he could be a sneaky fantasy play in seasonal leagues and DFS heading into Week 15 against the Bears if he starts again.

Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith (back) is expected to play in Week 14's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, his injury could limit the number of offensive snaps that he sees.
Huddle Up: Smith had been listed as questionable on the injury report after logging two limited practice sessions during the week. He makes a very risky fantasy play this afternoon because he will not be at 100 percent, although he could see more snaps than the Vikings are initially planning to give him since TE Kyle Rudolph (foot) will probably be inactive for this game.

Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith (back) was a limited participant in practice Friday, Dec. 11, and is listed as questionable on the team's Week 14 injury report.
Huddle Up: Smith was able to get in back-to-back limited practices to end the week, increasing his chances of playing Sunday. He's a TE2 if active.
