New England Patriots QB Bailey Zappe said he is going to "take full advantage" if he is given a chance to start during the 2023 season. "But if the opportunity presents itself, I'm going to be ready and take advantage of it," Zappe said.

New England Patriots QBs Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe could be competing for the starting quarterback job this summer, according to comments from head coach Bill Belichick on Friday, March 31. "(There will be competition at) every position. Everybody will get a chance to play. Everybody that's on our roster, if they earn the opportunity to play, then based on what they do in practice and all that, then they'll get an opportunity to play. Certainly veteran players that have been on the team before, if they're still on the team, they'll all get an opportunity to play," Belichick said when asked if team-wide competition included the quarterback position.
Huddle Up: Zappe led the Patriots to a 2-0 record while throwing for 497 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in two starts with Jones sidelined last season. In theory, he did enough with his chances to get some consideration for the job, but Jones' disappointing sophomore season was most likely the product of having a longtime defensive coordinator calling the shots on offense (Matt Patricia) and middling talent at receiver. Hiring Bill O'Brien alone may be enough to get him back on track.

New England Patriots QB Mac Jones is not guaranteed to start in 2023, head coach Bill Belichick said on Monday, March 27. "Well, everybody will get a chance to play. We'll play the best player," Belichick said.
Huddle Up: After seeing the respective seasons of Jones and Bailey Zappe in 2022, the Pats should have the pair compete in 2023. Jones has been disappointing overall and Zappe showed some exciting flashes in his opportunities, although the jury is still out on him, also. Adding to the uncertainty, it isn't crazy to think the Pats could draft a quarterback in April. For now, the two Patriots signal-callers should go undrafted in all but the deepest of re-draft leagues but are definite holds in dynasty.

New England Patriots QB Mac Jones is expected to be the starter in 2023, but backup Bailey Zappe will "have a chance to push Jones," according to The Athletic's Jeff Howe on Friday, March 3.
Huddle Up: Both pocket passers don't offer much of a ceiling in terms of fantasy and likely can be viewed as middling QB2 options.

New England Patriots QB Bailey Zappe replaced starting QB Mac Jones in the Week 7 game against the Chicago Bears, but head coach Bill Belichick would not commit to naming a starting quarterback for Week 8 against the New York Jets. "We just finished the game," Belichick said Monday, Oct. 24.
Huddle Up: We just finished the game is the new "we're on to Cincinnati." Reporters after the game knew better, but asked anyhow. Jones had an ugly interception, but Zappe came on and did well before committing three turnovers of his own. So honestly, Belichick might not know who he wants for Week 8. Either way, neither is worth using as more than a low-end QB2 in most fantasy leagues.

New England Patriots QB Bailey Zappe completed 14-of-22 passes for 185 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Week 7 against the Chicago Bears in relief of QB Mac Jones, and the rookie also lost a fumble.
Huddle Up: It's uncertain who will start in Week 8 against the New York Jets, but like most position battles involving head coach Bill Belichick, this screams stay away for fantasy managers.

New England Patriots QB Bailey Zappe replaced QB Mac Jones as the starting quarterback during the Week 7 game.
Huddle Up: Jones was returning from an ankle injury but struggled during the game, so Zappe entered the game. Zappe has been playing well over the last few weeks and could receive more starts if he is productive. Fantasy players can monitor the situation but, neither quarterback should be a starting option in standard leagues.

New England Patriots QB Bailey Zappe completed 24-of-34 passes for 309 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in a Week 6 game against the Cleveland Browns.
Huddle Up: Don't look now, but the Patriots look like they have found another late-round gem at the quarterback position. This was Zappe's first 300-yard game, and first multi-TD outing. He is still only worth a look as a low-end QB2 in leagues using two starting signal callers, but his fantasy star is on the rise.

New England Patriots QB Bailey Zappe completed 17-of-21 passes for 188 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 5 against the Detroit Lions while running for five yards.

New England Patriots QB Mac Jones (ankle) is not expected to play in Week 5's game versus the Detroit Lions, according to a source. QB Bailey Zappe will make his first NFL start.
Huddle Up: Jones had been listed as doubtful on the injury report despite participating in all three of the team's practice sessions during the week on a limited basis. Zappe should only be a lineup consideration in two-quarterback fantasy leagues despite the favorable matchup against a shaky Detroit defense.
