Impending free-agent TE Jake Tonges (49ers) reportedly agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract with the New York Jets on Wednesday, March 11.

San Francisco 49ers TE Jake Tonges is a restricted free agent, and he could draw interest from teams depending on the tender he receives from the organization.
Huddle Up: It's hard to believe that the Niners would value Tonges rather highly, as he did a great job filling in for Kittle when he missed time in 2025. Now, Kittle is coming back from a major Achilles injury, and he is 33 years old. Tonges posted 34 receptions, 293 yards and five touchdowns, and he emerged as a low-end TE1 for a handful of games when he filled in. This is a player to watch closely, as he could start out as a fantasy option filling in for Kittle in San Francisco, or he might be signed as a starter elsewhere. Either way, he is getting paid, and likely to see a big bump in playing time in 2026.

San Francisco 49ers TE Jake Tonges (foot) is expected to be sidelined for around three weeks because of a plantar fascia injury.

San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy completed 15 of his 27 passes for 140 yards and an interception and rushed five times for 37 yards and lost a fumble in a 41-6 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the Divisional Round. RB Christian McCaffrey (stinger) dealt with a stinger but managed 11 carries for 35 yards and caught five passes for 39 yards, and RB Jordan James added six carries for 28 yards and caught a seven-yard pass. TE Jake Tonges (foot) caught five passes for a team-high 59 yards before exiting with a foot injury, and WR Jauan Jennings had two grabs for 23 yards. WR Ricky Pearsall and WR Kendrick Bourne were both targeted twice, but neither caught a pass, and WR Demarcus Robinson gained a yard on his only catch. LB Dee Winters tied for the team lead with nine tackles, including three tackles for loss, and LB Eric Kendricks also had nine stops. S Malik Mustapha chipped in eight tackles and a sack.

San Francisco 49ers TE Jake Tonges (foot) is questionable to return to the Divisional Round game against the Seattle Seahawks after exiting with a foot injury. Tonges had five catches for 59 yards prior to exiting.
Huddle Up: Already missing George Kittle, the 49ers will be thin at the tight end position if Tonges is unable to return. Luke Farrell would likely become the primary option in place of Tonges.

San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy completed 18-of-31 passes for 262 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, while running nine times for 24 yards, in the NFC Wild Card game road win against the Philadelphia Eagles. RB Christian McCaffrey rushed 15 times for 48 yards, while posting six receptions for 66 yards and two touchdowns, including a 29-yard TD from WR Jauan Jennings. The latter had one reception for 45 yards on three targets and the scoring strike. WR Demarcus Robinson led the way with six receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown on seven targets, while FB Kyle Juszczyk absorbed all four targets for 49 yards, with TE Jake Tonges posted a 14-yard catch on three targets, stepping in for TE George Kittle (Achilles), who had one grab for six yards before leaving with a ruptured Achilles. LB Garret Wallow had 11 total stops with five solo tackles and a pass defensed, while LB Eric Kendricks, a former Eagle, had 10 total stops with seven solo tackles, two stops for loss and a pass break-up to seal the win.

San Francisco 49ers TE Jake Tonges registered seven receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown on nine targets in Week 17 against the Chicago Bears, stepping in for the inactive TE George Kittle (ankle).
Huddle Up: Tonges has stepped up when needed, filling in admirably for Kittle this season. The latter is reportedly close to playing, and expected to be back for the battle for the No. 1 seed in the NFC against the Seattle Seahawks next week, so Tonges is likely to fade back into the shadows again.

San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle (ankle) is inactive for the Week 17 game against the Chicago Bears. Look for TEs Luke Farrell and Jake Tonges to fill the void.
Huddle Up: Kittle was unable to practice all week, but carried a questionable tag into the game. In addition to Farrell and Tonges seeing more run, the wide receivers like Jauan Johnson and Ricky Pearsall could see added targets, as well as Christian McCaffrey out of the backfield.

San Francisco 49ers TE Jake Tonges had a 2-yard touchdown catch on his lone target in Week 8 against the Houston Texans.
Huddle Up: While Tonges scored, he was targeted just once, and that first catch didn't come until the final minute of the third quarter. His role has, expectedly, shrunk with the return of star George Kittle. While the TD was nice, if you were relying upon Tonges during Kittle's absence, it's safe to cut him loose outside of all deeper leagues.

San Francisco 49ers TE Jake Tonges did not have any receptions or targets in Week 7 against the Atlanta Falcons.
Huddle Up: Tonges was expected to take a backseat now that George Kittle is back from the Reserve/Injured list, but he really was on the back burner. Even Luke Farrell had a catch, and it was actually the only reception for a 49ers TE, as Kittle was blanked. If you had been depending upon Tonges for fantasy purposes, it's safe to cut bait outside of the deepest formats.
