Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice (knee) was absent from practice on Thursday, May 29, due to an illness and not because of a setback with his knee, according to coach Andy Reid.
Huddle Up: According to Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star, Rice is still on track to be cleared fully before training camp and adds that Patrick Mahomes believes Rice is already 100%. As a result, early drafters should feel good about landing Rice in the third round of 12-team drafts whenever they can. A fully healthy Rice has fantasy WR1 upside, as he displayed early last season before getting hurt.

Kansas City Chiefs director of player personnel Ryne Nutt said that the organization views rookie WR Jalen Royals fulfilling a similar role in 2025 to the one filled by WR Rashee Rice (knee) last season. Nutt said that his run-after-catch ability is one of his strong suits but added that his route running is an area where he needs to continue developing.
Huddle Up: Rice is recovering from knee surgery and it is uncertain if he will be able to fully participate in organized team activities. If he is completely healthy at the start of the regular season, Royals' best bet to see consistent game action might be as a punt returner instead. Royals can probably be avoided in most standard fantasy leagues for now but he could be an in-season waiver wire option if he plays well early on.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice (knee) has been participating in offseason workouts, according to QB Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes said he is not sure if Rice will be a full participant during organized team activities.
Huddle Up: Rice seems to be making good progress in his recovery and appears to be on track for the start of the regular season. Fantasy players should monitor the situation because Rice is a weekly starting option in all leagues when healthy.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice (knee) is expected to be ready to participate in training camp, according to head coach Andy Reid.
Huddle Up: Rice could still face a suspension from the league for last summer's off-field behavior at some point, but fantasy managers will be happy to know that the knee is unlikely to be an issue this summer. At the time of his injury in Week 4, Rice was leading the league in receptions (through three weeks) and ranked second in receiving yards, so his healthy return will be a big deal. Even if he ends up missing the first month of the season due to suspension, it will be difficult for managers to let Rice slip out of the fourth round in fantasy drafts.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice (knee) is making good progress in his recovery from knee surgery, according to head coach Andy Reid.
Huddle Up: Rice suffered the knee injury in October, so he should have a good chance to be ready for training camp if he does not suffer any setbacks. He is the main option in the passing game when healthy and should be a weekly starting option in all leagues.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice (knee) underwent successful surgery to repair his posterolateral corner (PLC), and his recovery timeline is expected to be similar to that of an ACL tear, head coach Andy Reid told reporters Monday, Oct. 14.
Huddle Up: This somewhat conflicts earlier reports that Rice only had a 4-6 month timeline. If Rice is expected to miss similar time to that of an ACL, his chances of being ready for the start of the 2025 regular season come into question. Rice is done for the remainder of the 2024 season, including the playoffs, so this will be an offseason storyline to monitor. Managers who have Rice in dynasty leagues should consider him a hold for now.

Updating previous reports, Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice (knee) underwent surgery to repair damage to his lateral collateral ligament on Tuesday, Oct. 8. While a timetable for his return has yet to be announced, Rice only suffered damage to his LCL and no other ligament.
Huddle Up: The typical timeline for a return to action following LCL surgery is four to six months. While it does give Rice a shot to play late in the postseason if the Chiefs make it that far, it seems highly unlikely he will be able to beat the timeline enough to return during the regular season. Fantasy managers are advised to keep Rice in their IR spot until something official is announced, however. JuJu Smith-Schuster played very well in the team's Week 5 victory and should be one of the most sought-after adds off the waiver wire this week.

Updating previous reports, Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice (knee) needs to undergo surgery on his lateral collateral ligament and is expected to miss the rest of the 2024 season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Rice likely will be sidelined for around three months if he only needs surgery on his LCL and his other ligaments do not need to be surgically repaired.
Huddle Up: There appears to be an outside chance that Rice will be a possibility to return if the Chiefs make a deep run in the playoffs, but fantasy players should not expect him until next season. He will be a weekly starting option in fantasy leagues next season.

Updating previous reports, Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice (knee) could return this season and be sidelined six to eight weeks, according to league sources, but nothing will be determined until after his procedure Monday, Oct. 7.
Huddle Up: Rice is the WR22 despite only playing in three games thus far. Keep him stashed. Xavier Worthy had a 3-73-1 line on four targets last week, and he will play a bigger role. Temper expectations, though, and the rookie is a WR3 or flex option as Patrick Mahomes should spread the ball around.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice (knee) is expected to undergo an arthroscopic procedure this upcoming week in order to help determine the extent of the damage in his knee, according to sources.
Huddle Up: Rice will miss at least four weeks since he is on the Reserve/Injured list but probably will miss more time if there is significant damage in the knee. The Chiefs do not have a clear replacement for Rice in their lineup, so the fantasy players may want to wait a week or two before adding a Chiefs receiver to their lineup.
