New England Patriots QB Drake Maye is not expected to play in the team's first preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts, according to HC Mike Vrabel on Tuesday, Aug. 11.
Huddle Up: Maye was neck and neck with Matthew Stafford in the league MVP race last season, but Maye ended up as the runner-up. Passing for 31 touchdowns, 4,394 yards, and tacking on 450 rushing yards and four more scores on the ground, Maye was a true fantasy difference-maker last season as 2025's QB2. This season should be no different and the team also added A.J. Brown to give him a true top-level threat at wide receiver. Maye should be one of the first few quarterbacks off the board in every fantasy football draft leading up to Week 1.

Huddle Up: Considering he finished last season ranked fourth in passing yards and third in touchdown passes, Maye could challenge for the league lead in both categories if the Patriots play faster on offense. Throw in the upgrades at the receiver position, and Maye seems like one of the safest bets to finish as a QB1 in 2026.

New England Patriots QB Drake Maye (shoulder) will not need offseason surgery to fix his injury. Maye told reporters, "Time is the best healer," on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
Huddle Up: Maye will come into next season as one of the best fantasy options at the quarterback position. He has a chance to be as high as QB3 overall, but is a bona fide starter for whoever has him on their roster.

Huddle Up: Maye was the QB3 in fantasy last season, and we'll have to wait and see if he'll require offseason surgery. The Pats had a weak schedule, which will not be the case next season. The cloud of the shoulder injury and a tougher schedule will weigh heavily on draft day, but he's still a top-five consideration in fantasy heading into his third year.

Huddle Up: It's impossible to say if things would've played out any differently had Maye been fully healthy, but we'll see if the NFL has anything to say about Maye get a pain-killing shot when he wasn't listed on the final injury report before the biggest game of the season. Looking ahead, 2026 will be an interesting year for Maye, who broke out in Year 2 and finished second to Matthew Stafford in MVP voting before struggling in the postseason. While much was made of Maye's ascent, many have pointed out the dismal strength of schedule he faced. He'll be drafted as a QB1, befitting his skills as a dual-threat passer, but there's some potential for regression as he navigates a first-place schedule amid raised expectations.

New England Patriots QB Drake Maye completed 27 of his 43 passes for 295 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in a 29-13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX. Maye was also sacked six times and lost a fumble while gaining 35 rushing yards on five carries. RB Rhamondre Stevenson managed 23 rushing yards on seven carries and caught five passes for 40 yards and a touchdown. RB TreVeyon Henderson was held to 19 yards on six carries and caught three passes for 26 yards. WR Mack Hollins was a bright spot for the offense, catching four passes for a team-high 78 yards and a touchdown. WR DeMario Douglas added five catches for 45 yards, and WR Stefon Diggs finished with three catches for 37 yards. TE Hunter Henry caught three passes for 31 yards, and WR Kayshon Boutte caught one pass for 31 yards. S Craig Woodson finished with a team-high 10 tackles, including seven solo stops, and CB Marcus Jones joined him with seven solo stops. DT Milton Williams recorded three tackles, including two tackles for loss, and a sack.
