New Orleans Saints second-round draft choice QB Tyler Shough said he expects to sign his rookie contract before the start of training camp.
Huddle Up: Most of the second-round picks in the NFL are unsigned at this point, but Shough and other players should start signing soon. He probably will be the leading candidate for the starting quarterback job entering training camp and would be a No. 2 fantasy option if he wins the job.

New Orleans Saints QBs Tyler Shough, Jake Haener and Hunter Dekkers worked out with WR Chris Olave, WR Rashid Shaheed, WR Brandin Cooks and other pass catchers earlier this week. QB Spencer Rattler did not attend because of a previous commitment, but Cooks said he worked out with Rattler earlier in the offseason and another throwing session is expected before training camp.
Huddle Up: Shough appears to be the leading candidate for the quarterback job entering training camp but will still have to hold off Rattler and Haener during practices. The winner of the starting job should be considered a No. 2 fantasy quarterback. Olave should be a weekly starter in most leagues, while Shaheed will have fantasy value.

New Orleans Saints QB Tyler Shough said he does not think things will affect him much during his rookie season because of the various things he had to deal with during his college career.
Huddle Up: Shough will be competing for the starting quarterback job during training camp and may have an advantage since he was selected in the second round of the draft. Fantasy players can keep an eye on the situation but should only see him as a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he wins the job.

New Orleans saints QB Tyler Shough and QB Spencer Rattler are splitting snaps with the first-team offense during offseason workouts, according to head coach Kellen Moore.
Huddle Up: Shough probably is the leading candidate at this point, but Rattler has a chance to win the job if he performs well during training camp and preseason. Fantasy players can monitor the situation over the next few months, but neither is more than a No. 2 fantasy quarterback.

New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore told reporters on Monday, May 19, that we will "give these guys (quarterbacks Spencer Rattler, Jake Haener, Tyler Shough and Hunter Dekkers) a bunch of opportunities" before adding help via trade or free agency. "Certainly, there (are) times where if the opportunity presents itself, you feel like it's a really good fit, you'd love to do it. We feel like we have some good guys here that can certainly mentor each other at the same time going through this process. ... We'll see how this whole thing progresses. The roster is a moving dynamic thing throughout the offseason process," Moore said.
Huddle Up: Derek Carr's recent retirement has left the team's young quarterbacks without a true veteran presence on the roster. Unfortunately for New Orleans, there is not much left at quarterback on the open market, with Tyler Huntley likely being the best of the bunch. Unless a decent veteran is cut during the preseason, the Saints will likely enter the season with the hope that Shough runs with the job and plays like a player who had seven years in college to prepare for this opportunity.

New Orleans Saints QBs Tyler Shough, Spencer Rattler, and Jake Haener will compete for the starting quarterback job, head coach Kellen Moore said Saturday, May 10, following the retirement of QB Derek Carr.
Huddle Up: Safely assume Shough, a 2025 second-rounder, will be granted the most flexibility in this battle. Regardless, the situation isn't too relevant for fantasy purposes in 2025. WR Chris Olave takes a little bit of a hit, and he already was risky to begin with. Consider TE Juwan Johnson a beneficiary of this group's inexperience.

New Orleans Saints QB Tyler Shough seems to be the leading candidate to be the starting quarterback in 2025 if QB Derek Carr (shoulder) is not able to play, in the opinion of SaintsWire's Luke Loffredo.
Huddle Up: The Saints used a second-round pick on Shough, so he likely will have an edge over Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener in the competition. He had success in college but would only be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he starts.

Louisville QB Tyler Shough was selected by the New Orleans Saints with the 40th overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Huddle Up: Shough has a chance to compete for the starting quarterback job right away with Derek Carr injured. Fantasy players can monitor the situation during training camp to see if he wins the job, but he probably will be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he starts.
