Retired WR Julian Edelman once again spoke about a potential return to the NFL. "The amount of work I have to put into my body to train, to make me confident -- like, that's so much for the output because of the injuries, my knees, this, that. I'm not getting the same output," Edelman said. "So now that I've taken a year off and I'm not loading my body, compounding loads every single day, my body feels pretty straight, you know? I've gone and dabbled out and you go run routes. But then, you see when you run routes, the next day, like, all right, I'm not too bad, but I'm already like 10,000 reps behind I feel in my mind." Edelman has previously said "we'll see" when asked about a potential comeback and noted he would "probably" play for the New England Patriots if he does return.

Retired WR Julian Edelman isn't ruling out a return to the NFL in 2022, but notes that if he does come back it would "probably" be with the New England Patriots. "I don't know, we'll see," Edelman said. "We're staying in shape, but you never know. But I'd probably go back to the Patriots. I love the Patriots. Foxboro Forever."

Retired WR Julian Edelman (Patriots) downplayed speculation that he will return to re-join former teammates Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski in Tampa Bay. 'I'm a one-team guy,' Edelman told NFL Network's Michael Irvin. 'My knees (are) breaking down, I'm not gonna sit here, you know, I got everything I wanted,' he added. 'I got three rings, played in a magical dynasty, with an unbelievable franchise coach, best quarterback of all time, like, yo, I'm not a greedy guy. I played to win, I played to compete, I don't need anything else to prove. I'm good with what I did, I left it all out on the field.'

Huddle Up: Edelman does turn 35 this month and played in a career-low six games in 2020, and although joining the Bucs are most certainly a possibility if he does return, the smart money is on Edelman staying retired.

Huddle Up: Edelman is dealing with a chronic knee injury, so fantasy players should consider avoiding him even if he decides to continue playing.

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman was released Monday, April 12, with a failed physical designation.

Huddle Up: Edelman missed most of the 2020 season because of a knee injury and his playing future is uncertain because of the injury. He may be able to find a new team but probably will not have much fantasy value unless he can recover from the chronic knee injury.

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (knee) had surgery last fall to alleviate knee swelling and is planning on playing in 2021, but a source said Thursday, April 8, that Edelman's knee issue is chronic, and is believes it's 'doubtful' that Edelman will be able to play an entire season.

Huddle Up: Edelman, who will turn 35 in May, played only six games in 2020 and hit seven-year lows with 21 catches for 315 yards and no TDs. The Patriots have already started adding free agent WR/TE reinforcements and more help could be coming in the draft. We're not betting against the ultra-tough Edelman playing in a 13th season this fall, but his days as a sure-fire fantasy commodity look to be in the rear-view mirror.

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman would like to play next season but does not know if he will be healthy enough to play, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. He is recovering from a knee injury he suffered during the season.

Huddle Up: Edelman was limited to six games in 2020 and finished with 315 yards. Fantasy players can monitor the situation this offseason, but Edelman probably will not be as much of a factor in the passing game as he was in previous seasons. He will be a risky fantasy option if he plays in 2021.

Huddle Up: Edelman missed most of the 2020 season because of an injury and may see a smaller role in the passing game if he returns next season. Fantasy players can monitor his situation during training camp, but he may only be a late-round option in fantasy leagues.

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (knee) is not expected to be activated in time to play in Week 16 against the Buffalo Bills, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, who also reports Edelman is unlikely to suit up for the regular-season finale versus the New York Jets.

Huddle Up: Edelman hasn't played since Week 7 and there's no reason for him to return now with the Patriots' playoff hopes already dashed. The long-time slot receiver's contract will turn 35 in May, meaning the outlook for his NFL future is cloudy at the moment as well.
