Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron will not be released as he enters the 2018 season under his fifth-year option. Ebron will be guaranteed $8.25 million when the new league year begins. The inconsistent tight end's presence will limit playing time for fellow TEs Darren Fells and Michael Roberts.
Huddle Up: Ebron came on late in the 2017 season and narrowly missed finishing as a TE1. If he can maintain good health and have a better start to the season then there is a chance Ebron can achieve TE1 status. Don't bet on it, though.

Detroit Lions TE Darren Fells posted two grabs for 26 yards and a touchdown on four targets in Week 6 against the New Orleans Saints.
Huddle Up: Fells has hauled in three touchdowns over the past two games after doing nothing in the first four outings. Despite the scoring ways, Fells is only worth a look as a bye-week replacement or low-priced DFS option going forward. The team is off in Week 7 for its bye.

Detroit Lions TE Darren Fells cashed in both of his targets for touchdowns in Week 5 against the Carolina Panthers, finishing with 24 yards.
Huddle Up: Fells didn't do anything until the fourth quarter, so don't get overly excited about this performance. He was targeted zero times in the first three quarters, and Eric Ebron is still going to outperform him over time. It might be tempting to grab him for Week 6 in New Orleans, but he still isn't likely to have a big game.

Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron said he believes the addition of TE Darren Fells will allow him to play to his strengths. 'I think it's going to play a significant role for me to allow me to do the things that I'm best at,' Ebron said.
Huddle Up: Ebron finished with a career-high 711 receiving yards last year despite missing three games, and if Fells can handle a lot of the blocking duties, it could free up Ebron to do more damage in the passing game. Grab him as a low-end TE1.

Arizona Cardinals TE Darren Fells signed his exclusive-rights tender Monday, Feb. 1.
Huddle Up: Fells didn't have much of a choice, hence the name "exclusive rights". Fells appeared to usurp Jermaine Gresham as the Cards' tight end of choice down the stretch, and while it's not a particularly juicy role in that offense if he's seeing most of the looks he could be a viable plug-in fantasy play next season.
