Huddle Up: Ansah's productivity has progressed at a steady pace, going from eight sacks and 30 total tackles as a rookie to 14.5 and 47 last season, making it an easy financial call for the Lions.

Detroit Lions DE Ziggy Ansah is nearing the end of his rookie contract, and team president Tom Lewand mentioned Ansah as a possible candidate for an extension.

Detroit Lions DE Ziggy Ansah (shoulder) won't play in the team's preseason game against the Oakland Raiders Friday, Aug. 15, according to head coach Jim Caldwell.
Huddle Up: Last season's No. 5 overall pick, who underwent shoulder surgery this past winter, was removed from the PUP list earlier Tuesday, but he has been limited to bag work and basic drills on the side. The DE should be able to get in some work in the final two games of the preseason.

Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin said DE Ziggy Ansah (shoulder) will have to catch up since he is not taking part in workouts, because he is recovering from shoulder surgery. Austin said he is not worried about Ansah picking up the defense because he has been around the team during the workouts.
Huddle Up: Ansah, the fifth-overall pick last season, had a decent rookie campaign with 8 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 30 total tackles in 14 games but will need to put in extra work considering he is learning a new system under Austin, the team's new DC.

Detroit Lions DE Ziggy Ansah (shoulder, biceps) won't be ready for offseason workouts and will be brought along slowly. Ansah had surgery on his shoulder, but he also had a biceps issue last season. 'He may have had an issue with it of some sort and, oftentimes, those things are interconnected, as you well know,' head coach Jim Caldwell said.
Huddle Up: Offseason workouts aren't necessarily a big issue, but if Ansah is still limited at the start of training camp expect his fantasy stock to dip.
