Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud changed his diet and added muscle this offseason in order to improve his speed. "I do feel fast," Stroud said. "You want to be explosive, but I also think it has to do with making sure you're able to take hits."
Huddle Up: Stroud hasn't been able to replicate the numbers from his impressive rookie campaign, but if he is actually committed to running more, it would be a serious boost to his fantasy upside. It is a trend worth monitoring, but the potential alone doesn't make Stroud worth reaching for. He remains a midrange QB2.

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud completed four of his six passes for 27 yards during the preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders Thursday, Aug. 20.
Huddle Up: Houston's 2025 season ended with a disastrous outing from Stroud in the playoffs, and overall, he simply hasn't been able to match his performance from his rookie season. A return to form is possible, but it is best to view Stroud as a midrange QB2 heading into 2026.

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud has shown improved communication with offensive coordinator Nick Caley this offseason, according to head coach DeMeco Ryans.
Huddle Up: Stroud saw a small drop in his numbers this past season but another year with Caley should help his game improve. He has good pass catchers to work with but will probably only be a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud has shown a different comfort level with the offense throughout the spring, according to offensive coordinator Nick Caley.
Huddle Up: Stroud is still trying to recapture the magic from his rookie season, and his passing yards and passing touchdowns have actually declined in every year of his career. There is a chance that Stroud thrives in Caley's system in 2026, but he is best viewed as a midrange QB2 until he proves otherwise.

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud is not close to an agreement on a contract extension with the Texans at this point, according to ESPN.com's DJ Bien-Aime.
Huddle Up: Stroud missed a few games last season because of injury but did see a drop in his stats. The team probably want to see him perform in 2026 before considering a new contract. Stroud should be considered a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud has a better grasp of offensive coordinator Nick Caley's system, especially when it comes to pre-snap operation, according to quarterbacks coach Jerry Schuplinski.
Huddle Up: Stroud's performance has gone in the wrong direction since his impressive rookie campaign, and while another year in the same system should help, Stroud's rookie season seems like the outlier at this point. Consider him a midrange QB2 with streaming potential in the right matchups.

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud has CEO Cal McNair's backing, saying the Texans are "fully committed" to Stroud on Monday, May 4.
Huddle Up: After Stroud's excellent rookie season, he hasn't progressed into a top-flight passer, or even an adequate one for fantasy football. After a QB11 finish in 2023, Stroud has been QB18 in 2024 and then last season in 2025, QB21. With largely the same group of pass-catchers, Stroud is a high-floor, low-ceiling fantasy quarterback who may be sparsely rostered in typical redraft leagues, but probably more of a "break glass in case of emergency" veteran option on the waiver wire in 2026.

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud had a difficult 2025 season, but veteran OT Trent Brown believes in the quarterback. "I expect C.J. to get better," Brown said. "People be so quick to throw people away that they forget what you've done for them. The build up, you know what I mean? I expect C.J. to get better. I think C.J. is going to come in and be even more of a leader than he's been. I think his approach will be different. Me and C.J. had a discussion probably about a month and a half ago and talked about the season and what he could be better at. I think this offseason is a little different for him and I think he's going to surprise a lot of people."
Huddle Up: Stroud did struggle in 2025, but he was missing star Nico Collins at times, while the run game also had issues. He was also breaking in a handful of young or rookie wide receivers. Stroud has a lot of doubters, and he enters 2026 as a QB2 in most fantasy leagues. However, he has the potential to rise with a strong offseason program, training camp and preseason. He'll be one of the more scrutinized quarterbacks this offseason.

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud had his fifth-year optioned exercised Wednesday, April 8, according to a source.
Huddle Up: Stroud seems likely to be in line to start for the Texans for at least two more seasons and will look to improve his stats next season. He has some good pass catchers to work with in Houston but will be a No. 2 quarterback in most fantasy leagues.

Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans says the team remains confident in QB C.J. Stroud, stating, "The support hasn't wavered."
Huddle Up: Stroud is coming off a season in which he finished as QB20, and he will be down Tank Dell to start the new season. Injuries affected his production, as did the offensive line play, but both areas are improved this offseason, so fantasy players can be optimistic about his play in 2026, the same way the Texans are.
