Atlanta Falcons QB Marcus Mariota's mobility will be utilized in the offense, according to quarterbacks coach Charles London. "I think we'd be crazy if we didn't try to roll these guys out of the pocket a little bit," London said.
Huddle Up: Mariota has never run for more than 357 yards in a season, but he may be forced to make more plays with his legs for an Atlanta offense that is lacking in overall firepower. If he does start running on a routine basis, he could emerge as a serviceable QB2.

Atlanta Falcons QB Marcus Mariota says he's "hungry to get back on the field again" after being a backup the past two seasons. "For me personally, the last couple of years was a learning opportunity," Mariota said on Thursday, May 26. "Previously when I was at Tennessee I had an opportunity to play. I was a starter. Being around that and then going and learning for a couple of years, I'm kind of hungry to get back on the field again."
Huddle Up: Mariota is the favorite to start in Atlanta over rookie signal-caller and 2022 third-round pick, Desmond Ridder. However, a checkered past with injuries remains a major concern for him. Assuming he enters the season as the starter, Mariota is a QB2 with upside thanks to his dual-threat ability.

Atlanta Falcons QB Marcus Mariota is at the top of the quarterback depth chart ahead of the 2022 season, head coach Arthur Smith said recently. "We've added competition certainly," Smith said. "Marcus being the veteran gives us a chance going forward. As with any position on this team, the best player is going to play, but obviously Marcus being the vet, that's the way it'll go starting out."
Huddle Up: Mariota will battle it out for the starting job with 2022 third-round pick Desmond Ridder, but it's obvious the veteran has the advantage there. If he wins the starting job, Mariota will enter the season as a QB2 with QB1 upside thanks to his ability to make plays with his legs, but it's worth noting he has a shaky roster around him and a checkered past with injuries.

Updating previous reports, Atlanta Falcons QB Marcus Mariota's deal is essentially a one-year deal worth $6.75 million with a $12 million option for 2023. He has a $5 million signing bonus with a $1.75 million guaranteed base salary. He has a $3 million roster bonus due the fifth day of the league year.

Updating a previous report, free-agent QB Marcus Mariota (Raiders) agreed to terms on a two-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons on Monday, March 21. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.
Huddle Up: Atlanta head coach Arthur Smith and Mariota briefly worked together with the Tennessee Titans in 2019 when the former was the offensive coordinator. Feleipe Franks is the only other quarterback on the Falcons' roster at the moment, so they needed to add someone just for roster depth. Mariota figures to serve as the bridge between Matt Ryan, who was traded to the Indianapolis Colts earlier Monday, and whomever the Falcons draft in April. Mariota figures to be a hard sell in fantasy outside of superflex/two-quarterback leagues.

Free-agent QB Marcus Mariota (Raiders) could be high on the Atlanta Falcons' priority list following the team's trade of Matt Ryan on Monday, March 21, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo via sources.
Huddle Up: Mariota played for Atlanta head coach Arthur Smith when the latter was the offensive coordinator for the former with the Tennessee Titans in 2019. Given the Falcons' current quarterback depth chart (Feleipe Franks), Mariota would have a very good chance to start next season while Atlanta grooms the quarterback it is now expected to draft at No. 8 overall next month.

Las Vegas Raiders impending free-agent QB Marcus Mariota could be of interest to the San Francisco 49ers as a bridge quarterback who could support Trey Lance in a backup role or start games should Lance need a little more developmental time, according to ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.

Las Vegas Raiders QB Marcus Mariota will continue to be used in certain spots for the rest of the season, according to comments made by interim head coach Rich Bisaccia on Tuesday, Nov. 30.
Huddle Up: While it will come as a minor nuisance to Derek Carr's fantasy managers, they have little to worry about here. At worst, Mariota will maybe take two or three snaps to execute a zone-read play every game and could steal a red zone touchdown here or there from Carr, but that is about it.
