Green Bay Packers WR Matthew Golden could play and contribute "a lot" as a rookie, according to comments from GM Brian Gutekunst, who mentioned Golden's "elite speed" and indicated the Packers thought Golden had "some of the best hands" in this year's draft.
Huddle Up: With Christian Watson (knee) likely to miss a chunk of the season, Green Bay has an obvious need for a deep threat, which is something Golden, who ran the second-fastest 40-yard dash time (4.29) among this year's rookie class, should help fill. He's also versatile, lining up outside and in the slot. Golden brings a different dynamic to Green Bay's receiver room, and he could be an interesting late-round target, likely as the second Packers receiver off fantasy draft boards behind Jayden Reed.

Texas WR Matthew Golden was selected by the Green Bay Packers with the 23rd overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Huddle Up: The Packers do not have a clear No. 1 receiver on the roster, so Golden has a chance to earn a significant role right away. He was one of the fastest receivers at the NFL Scouting Combine and can be a No. 3 or No. 4 receiver in fantasy leagues.

University of Texas WR Matthew Golden told the "Up & Adams" podcast that an ankle sprain in January is "still bothering" him and impacted his performance in the 40-yard dash at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine (4.29 seconds).
Huddle Up: Golden will likely go in the first round in next week's draft. While it is possible Golden suffered a high-ankle sprain during the Longhorns' College Football Playoff run (he reportedly did), it is highly unlikely that it impacted his performance in the 40. Not only was the time the best at his position group (meaning he likely was not impacted by the injury), but he also does not play that fast on tape. Perhaps the biggest takeaway from his interview is that he is probably halfway through the recovery time that is usually necessary to heal fully from a high-ankle sprain.
