Dallas Cowboys RB Dalvin Cook rushed for 12 yards on six carries and caught his only target for 10 yards in Week 8 versus the San Francisco 49ers.
Huddle Up: Head coach Mike McCarthy teased the likelihood of Cook getting some playing time earlier in the week, and it became a necessity once Rico Dowdle (illness) was ruled out early on Sunday. Cook's presence did not spark was has largely been a dormant running game all season, but it is fair to wonder if Cook showed enough to get the nod over Ezekiel Elliott has Dowdle's primary backup. Regardless of how it shakes out, Cook should remain on fantasy benches in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Huddle Up: Cook has been patiently waiting for his chance to play on the practice squad, and with the Cowboys not happy with their current options at running back, he's finally getting his shot. Cook is not a starting option in Week 8, but he is someone to keep an eye on in the event he finds the fountain of youth and takes over the starting job in Dallas.

The Dallas Cowboys are expected to elevate RB Dalvin Cook from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Oct. 26, and he will make his season debut in Week 8's game against the San Francisco 49ers, according to his agency LAA.
Huddle Up: Cook has reportedly looked good in practice but it remains to be seen how big of a role he will have in the Dallas offense or how it will affect the workloads of RBs Rico Dowdle and Ezekiel Elliott. Owners should avoid using him in fantasy lineups for now but he can be stashed on the bench in deeper leagues.

Dallas Cowboys RB Dalvin Cook has "clearly crossed over the threshold of the communication and the understanding (of the offense)," according to head coach Mike McCarthy, and will likely be elevated from the practice squad ahead of the team's Week 8 game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Huddle Up: While the Cowboys could dress four running backs (including fullback Hunter Luepke), this report makes it likely that Ezekiel Elliott will be inactive and Cook will serve as the direct backup to Rico Dowdle. While Dowdle has done well this season given the circumstances, it likely would not take much for Cook to force a backfield split if he has more left in the tank than he showed last season. Cook is worth adding in 14-team leagues and is worth adding as a stash in deeper 12-team leagues as well just in case he pops or Dowdle gets hurt.

Dallas Cowboys RB Dalvin Cook has impressed the coaching staff since joing the practice squad, and Dan Graziano of ESPN.com believes Cook "ends up getting a look" if the Cowboys struggle to run the ball against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3.
Huddle Up: There is no guarantee that Cook will be given an opportunity, but the Cowboys have nothing to lose if Ezekiel Elliott and Rico Dowdle continue to struggle. Cook could be worth a speculative add in deeper leagues.

Free-agent RB Dalvin Cook (Ravens) agreed to an undisclosed deal with the Dallas Cowboys Wednesday, Aug. 28.
Huddle Up: Cook is 29 and just two years removed from a 1,173-yard campaign when he rushed for 4.4 YPC in 2022. He could still be a factor, and let's face it, Zeke Elliott and Rico Dowdle aren't really imposing threats ahead of him. Grab him in deep leagues and keep him on the watch list otherwise.
