Minnesota Vikings RB Aaron Jones will return to the team next season after agreeing to a revised contract with the Vikings, according to sources. Jones is now scheduled to receive a $5.5 million base salary in 2026.
Huddle Up: There was a chance that Jones would be released this offseason, but he has agreed to a reworked contract and will play for the Vikings in 2026. He will likely see a similar role next season and can be a No. 3 running back in most fantasy leagues.

Minnesota Vikings RB Aaron Jones has been informed that, barring a trade, he will be released at the start of the league year this month. His release will save the team $7.75 million against the cap.
Huddle Up: Jones was limited to 12 games due to nagging injuries, and he averaged a career-low 4.2 yards per carry, while tying a career low with just two rushing scores. The good news is that he had zero fumbles on 132 carries, his first season since 2017 in Green Bay without putting a ball on the ground. After a career-high 1,138 rushing yards in his initial campaign in 2024, he tailed off. At 31 years old, the market isn't likely clamoring for him to be anything more than a serviceable backup, but you never know.

Minnesota Vikings RB Aaron Jones could be cut this offseason, in the opinion of NFL.com's Matt Okada.
Huddle Up: Jones has long been an underappreciated fantasy running back, but in his age-31 season and second season with the Vikings, Jones' 2025 season saw him take a slight step back in production. Missing five games, Jones still averaged 4.2 yards per carry and posted 548 rushing yards with three total touchdowns. Minnesota is well into the red in terms of the cap threshold, so for a team looking to alleviate that huge $40.1 million negative cap, jettisoning Jones to free up almost $7 million could be in the cards. At this stage of his career, Jones could be a useful committee back for several NFL teams if he were to be cut by the Vikings. There may be some usefulness left with Jones in 2026, so for fantasy, pay attention to where he's playing football this upcoming season.

Minnesota Vikings RB Aaron Jones (hip) did not participate in practice Thursday, Jan. 1.
Huddle Up: Jones' availability for Week 18 is uncertain at this point since he has not practice at this point this week. He is usually at least a flex option when healthy, but fantasy players may need other options ready in case he is ruled out.

Minnesota Vikings RB Aaron Jones (hip) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 31.
Huddle Up: Fantasy players will need to check later in the week to see if Jones is able to take part in practice. He will receive most of the work at running back if he plays and can be at least a flex option in leagues.

Minnesota Vikings RB Aaron Jones rushed 18 times for 53 yards and a touchdown and caught three passes for 10 yards in a 23-10 win over the Detroit Lions in Week 17.
Huddle Up: With Jordan Mason sidelined, Jones handled a majority of the carries, and he has logged 39 carries over the last two games. He wasn't efficient, but as long as Mason is sidelined, Jones should see enough volume to push for RB2 status.

Minnesota Vikings RB Aaron Jones Sr. (ankle) was limited in practice all week and no longer appears on the injury report.
Huddle Up: Jones Sr. may be one of the few Vikings worth starting as a flex in Week 17. He is a dual-threat out of the backfield, which may be a safety valve for Max Brosmer, who is starting at quarterback.
