Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) will get some expert consultation this week but won't enter the final stage of the concussion protocol until he's back from injured reserve and logs his first practice, head coach Mike McDaniel said on Monday, Oct. 7.

Miami Dolphins WR Jaylen Waddle caught all nine of his targets for 150 yards and six first downs with Tua Tagovailoa as his quarterback in Weeks 1 and 2. With Tyler Huntley, Skylar Thompson and Tim Boyle under center, Waddle has caught eight of 11 targets for 62 yards and three first downs.
Huddle Up: For the sake of comparison, Tagovailoa and Waddle combined for a 68.6% catch rate on 105 targets in 2023. All told, an 85% catch rate is awfully impressive given the circumstances in Miami through four games. The reason any of this is relevant is because then his managers should expect Waddle to continue struggling over the next two games before Tagovailoa (concussion) likely makes his return in Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) has not experienced any symptoms following his latest concussion and appears to have a good chance at returning to action in Week 8 versus the Arizona Cardinals, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Huddle Up: The first part is great news for Tagovailoa after he suffered what is believed to be either his fourth or fifth concussion. The second part is great news for the Dolphins, whose offense has tanked while turning to Skylar Thompson and Tyler Huntley in Tagovailoa's absence. Miami should have a winnable game against the New England Patriots in Week 5 before going on a bye, which gives Tagovailoa a chance to return to a team that still has a chance at the playoffs. Tagovailoa may not be anything more than a QB2 in fantasy, but his return would likely do wonders for the fantasy values of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) is traveling with the team to Seattle for their Week 3 game versus the Seattle Seahawks, according to head coach Mike Macdonald.
Huddle Up: Despite this news, Tagovailoa is currently on injured reserve and will not see game action before Week 8 at the earliest. However, it remains unclear if he will gain medical clearance by that time in order to resume playing. QB Skylar Thompson will serve as Miami's starter in the meantime and his presence in the lineup will mean a downgrade in fantasy value for the entire offense.

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
Huddle Up: Since Miami goes on its bye in Week 6, it means the earliest we will see Tagovailoa again is Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals on Oct. 27. Whether he is cleared to play at that point is another story, although Tagovailoa and the Dolphins are doing the smart thing here by giving him over a month to recover from his latest head trauma. Skylar Thompson is expected to take over as the starter under center in the interim, although his presence is a downgrade for the entire offense.

Updating previous reports, Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) does not have any plans to retire from football, according to multiple sources. He has already started the process of visiting specialists but no timetable exists for his return to action.
Huddle Up: Tagovailoa has sustained four concussions in his last five years, including one during his final year at the University of Alabama, so the Dolphins will err on the side of caution when it comes to matters involving his health. QB Skylar Thompson will be Miami's starter in the meantime but he should only be considered for starting lineups in two-quarterback fantasy leagues despite the offensive weapons he has at his disposal.

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) is scheduled to meet with neurologists early this week, according to multiple league sources. He wants to gather information about the severity of his most recent concussion and find out the cumulative effect of all of the concussions that he has sustained in his career before making the most informed decision about his future.
Huddle Up: Tagovailoa has been diagnosed with four concussions in the past five years, dating back to his final season at the University of Alabama, and will be sidelined for an indefinite amount of time. QB Skylar Thompson will serve as the Dolphins' starter while Tagovailoa is sidelined but he should not be started outside of two-quarterback fantasy leagues.

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said that he has "zero idea" for a potential timeline of recovery for QB Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) because he doesn't want to put any pressure on him. The team is uncertain if he will require a stint on injured reserve but McDaniel believes he will miss at least one game.
Huddle Up: QB Skylar Thompson will start for Miami for as long as Tagovailoa is sidelined, with QB Mike White expected to serve as the backup. The Dolphins also have QB Tim Boyle on their practice squad and are expected to add a third quarterback to the active roster soon. Thompson is worthy of consideration as a starter in deeper two-quarterback fantasy leagues because of the offensive weapons that he will have at his disposal, although he looked shaky in relief of Tagovailoa in Week 2.

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) is unlikely to play next week, in the opinion of head coach Mike McDaniel. "I don't see how he would play in the next game," McDaniel said, "but who am I to know or judge?"
Huddle Up: Skylar Thompson looked like a deer in the headlights, but he'll be under center if Tua can't go. Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle's fantasy upside suffers as a result, but the running back corps of De'Von Achane and Raheem Mostert will likely benefit. Thompson is an option in two-QB leagues because of the weapons he has around him.

Prior to his injury, Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) completed 17 of 25 passes for 145 yards, 1 touchdown, and 3 interceptions against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday, Sept. 12. Tagovailoa also ran the ball twice for 17 yards.
Huddle Up: While clearly, the lead story here is Tagovailoa's third career concussion, from a purely statistical perspective it was a rough outing for the Miami quarterback. Among the three INTs was a brutal pick-six off his back foot, and he also took a sack on a fourth down. Fantasy owners will have to play the waiting game now to see how quickly Tagovailoa is cleared to return to action. The Dolphins next game is on Sept. 22 against the Seahawks, so he'll have a few extra days to recover, though given his history it's hard to predict when he'll be back under center.
