Denver Broncos RB Samaje Perine "can be" a starter (in 2023 as the team awaits the return of Javonte Williams), according to general manager George Paton on Monday, March 27.
Huddle Up: Paton also noted that the team likes Latavius Murray. Perine proved to be a very capable back when he was called upon to start during his time with the Cincinnati Bengals and would seem to be a solid complement to Williams when the latter's knee is healthy. However, there seems to be no consensus on how long Williams will be sidelined, and it is a bit much to ask Perine to hold down the fort for two or three months if Williams isn't ready until midseason or a bit later. Perine appears to be a savvy best-ball pick at the moment, but his fantasy value beyond that remains uncertain.

Denver Broncos RB Javonte Williams (knee) is "a lot more hurt than the team is letting on publicly" and the team is "secretly nervous" about his status ahead of 2023, per source on Monday, March 6.
Huddle Up: The report gave a wide range of possibilities for Williams, including anything from being ready to start the season to missing the entire 2023 campaign. It has been no secret that owners with stock in Williams need to have a contingency plan next season, and right now that looks like Latavius Murray. However, Denver will certainly add to the position this offseason, but how big they go will likely depend on Williams' status, which is very much up in the air.

Denver Broncos RB Javonte Williams (knee) is jogging and "on track" to be ready for the start of the 2023 season, according to general manager George Paton.
Huddle Up: There is a very good chance Paton is hoping to speak this into existence, as Williams suffered a torn ACL and LCL in addition to suffering damage to the posterior lateral part of his right knee in early October. While Williams was fortunate to suffer the injury when he did (Week 1 of the 2023 season will be roughly 11 1/2 months removed from the injury), he may face the same kind of complications J.K. Dobbins did for most of the 2022 season. Early drafters would be wise to let another manager take on the risk that will come with drafting Williams this season.

Denver Broncos RB Javonte Williams (knee) could be sidelined "well into the 2023 season" as he recovers from knee surgery, according to Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com.
Huddle Up: Williams should eventually be the lead back for a Denver offense that will now be under the direction of Sean Payton, but Williams may not be back to 100 percent until 2024. Still, he could pay dividends in the second half of the year and is worth drafting and stashing for his upside.

Denver Broncos LB Jonathon Cooper (hamstring), LB Randy Gregory (knee), S P.J. Locke (concussion), OG Quinn Meinerz (hamstring), LB Aaron Patrick (concussion), S Caden Sterns (chest, hip) and RB Javonte Williams (knee) did not participate in practice Monday, Oct. 3. WR Tyrie Cleveland (hamstring), CB Darius Phillips (hamstring), OG Dalton Risner (ankle), OT Billy Turner (knee) and CB K'Waun Williams (wrist) were limited during practice. The Broncos did not hold a practice Monday, so the injury report is an estimation.

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos RB Javonte Williams (knee) not only suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in Week 4, but an MRI revealed also a torn lateral collateral ligament and posterolateral corner.
Huddle Up: Absolutely brutal news for Williams and the Broncos. With this amount of damage to his knee, it is fair to wonder if he will be cleared for training camp next summer. As far as the remainder of this season, Melvin Gordon becomes the clear lead runner in Denver and an every-week fantasy RB2 option. Mike Boone also figures to work in and should be a usable flex option in deeper leagues.

Updating an earlier report, Denver Broncos RB Javonte Williams (knee) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and will miss the rest of the year.
Huddle Up: Melvin Gordon becomes a slam-dunk RB2, and they'll need to acquire another back to either split time with Mike Boone or be the third-down back. Boone should be picked up in most formats.

Updating previous reports, Denver Broncos RB Javonte Williams (knee) will have an MRI Monday, Oct. 3, on what is feared to be a serious knee injury.
Huddle Up: It's not clear what exactly the team is fearing, but a season-ender is possible. Melvin Gordon's value shoots up to a high-end RB2. Mike Boone is the only other option in the roster, and the team will likely have to bring in some depth.

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos RB Javonte Williams (knee) was on crutches after leaving the Week 4 game against the Las Vegas Raiders, and head coach Nathaniel Hackett said Williams will have an MRI on Monday, Oct. 3.
Huddle Up: If Williams is forced to miss playing time, Melvin Gordon would be the biggest beneficiary from a fantasy perspective. It's speculation, but he is likely to be sidelined for at least Week 5, because as luck has it, the Broncos face a quick turnaround with a Thursday game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Denver Broncos RB Javonte Williams (knee) left the Week 4 game against the Las Vegas Raiders in the second half due to a right knee injury and he will not return.
Huddle Up: With Williams out, Melvin Gordon will gobble up a majority of the backfield touches. If Williams is forced to miss time, Gordon would be worth using as an RB2 or flex fantasy option in leagues of 12 or more teams going forward.
