Minnesota Vikings RB Jordan Mason is expected to "bring something to the table in those short-yardage situations, those goal-line situations, goal-to-go, where we've really left a lot to be desired as a football team," according to head coach Kevin O'Connell.
Huddle Up: While Jones handled a career-high 306 touches in 2024, the 30-year-old has long been used more of a 1A back than a featured back. The combination of his age and injury history was likely more than enough to make acquiring a back like Mason a priority. Jones figures to be the clear starter again this season, but the Vikings' likely dream scenario is to cap his workload around 250 touches and let Mason finish off drives. Between the expected goal-line role and the likelihood that Jones misses time in 2025, Mason should be considered a priority handcuff in fantasy.

The Minnesota Vikings are acquiring RB Jordan Mason and the 187th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft from the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for the 160th overall pick and a 2026 sixth-round pick, according to sources.
Huddle Up: Adding Mason to the backfield likely means fewer touches for Aaron Jones going forward. Jones should remain the top option in the Minnesota backfield, but he will likely top out as a RB2 with Mason being a priority backup.

The San Francisco 49ers are trading RB Jordan Mason and the 187th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for the 160th overall pick and a 2026 sixth-round pick, according to sources.
Huddle Up: With Mason out of the picture, Isaac Guerendo appears poised to become one of the more valuable backups in fantasy. Of course, that could change if San Francisco decides to add a running back in the draft.

San Francisco 49ers restricted free-agent RB Jordan Mason received a second-round tender Tuesday, March 11.
Huddle Up: Mason was one of the best players in fantasy in the early part of last season, and he'll be and upside RB3 and an absolute handcuff to Christian McCaffrey again in 2025.

San Francisco 49ers impending restricted free-agent RB Jordan Mason has been drawing trade interest.
Huddle Up: Mason has proven himself a capable lead back when given the opportunity, and he averaged 5.2 yards per carry on 153 attempts last year. If Mason ends up being positioned to receive significant touches in 2025, he will be in the RB2 mix.

San Francisco 49ers RB Jordan Mason (ankle) was placed on injured reserve on Saturday, Dec. 7.
Huddle Up: Reports suggested this was the move the Niners would make, and finally it has been made official. With Mason and Christian McCaffrey (knee) both on injured reserve, rookie Isaac Guerendo, who has had some explosive runs this season, will take the reins in the backfield. He's an RB2 with upside the rest of the way.

San Francisco 49ers RB Jordan Mason (ankle) did not participate in practice Friday, Dec. 6, and has been ruled out for Week 14.
Huddle Up: Mason is expected to be placed on the Reserve/Injured list and likely will miss the rest of the regular season. Isaac Guerendo will be the main running back for the 49ers for now and can be at least a flex option in fantasy leagues.
