Detroit Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs has incorporated mixed-martial arts into his training routine. "It helps with body control," Gibbs said. "Your base and all that and faster hands," Gibbs told ESPN. "I would say with blocking, I get my hands up before they hit me."
Huddle Up: He'll have Isiah Pacheco behind him, but Gibbs is the surefire bellcow in Detroit. An argument could be made for him as the No.1 overall pick, but he and Bijan Robinson will likely be the first two backs taken in the first round.

Detroit Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs will see a majority of the carries out of the backfield following the trade of RB David Montgomery to the Houston Texans during the offseason. "He's going to be our bell cow now," head coach Dan Campbell said. "We're going to hang our hat on him quite a bit. We're going to do a lot of things we feel like he does well. I've mentioned this before, he can run everything that we've got. He can run every scheme that anybody's ever run."
Huddle Up: Gibbs was already an RB1 in most every fantasy format, even when Montgomery was grabbing a handful of carries and 10-15 total touches per game. If all, or at least most, of those carries go to Gibbs, he could challenge for the top overall pick in most fantasy leagues, he is that good. He ran for 1,223 yards with 13 touchdowns and 5.0 yards per carry in 2025, while adding 77 receptions for 616 yards and five more scores, and he had just one lost fumble for the entire season.

Detroit Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs said he is only focusing on his play and will let his agent handle the contract extensions.
Huddle Up: Gibbs should receive a new contract at some point but will see more of the work at running back in 2026 with David Montgomery no longer on the team. He will be selected in the first few rounds of all fantasy leagues and will be a weekly starting option for players.

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs is eligible for a contract extension but substantial talks have not yet taken place between the two sides, according to ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.
Huddle Up: The Lions exercised a $14.3 million fifth-year option on Gibbs' rookie contract for the 2027 season last month but would like to sign him to a long-term deal. According to Fowler, he could command at least $20 million annually on a new deal and would likely earn a similar amount to what Atlanta Falcons RB Bijan Robinson is looking for in an extension. Gibbs should be viewed as a first-round pick in all fantasy football drafts.

Detroit Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs had his fifth-year option exercised by the team as expected on Tuesday, April 28, according to a report. The Lions, however, declined the fifth-year option on LB Jack Campbell.
Huddle Up: Gibbs rushed 243 times for 1,223 yards with 13 touchdowns last season and added 77 receptions for 616 yards with five touchdowns. He's one of if not the best overall players in fantasy football and his workload could increase after David Montgomery was traded to the Houston Texans.

Huddle Up: Gibbs has gotten better and better in his three NFL seasons, notching three straight double-digit touchdown seasons as well as back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns on the ground. Through the air, he's seen more involvement with a career-high 94 targets and 77 receptions in 2025. This season in 2026, he'll play his first season without David Montgomery in the Lions' backfield, so the sky is truly the limit with Gibbs. He's a slam-dunk first-round pick in all fantasy formats.
