Las Vegas Raiders QB Gardner Minshew was named the starter over Aidan O'Connell, head coach Antonio Pierce announced Sunday, Aug. 18.
Huddle Up: Minshew was the QB17 in fantasy points per game from Week 6 on during the 2023 season. The Raiders offense is likely to be a low-ceiling unit. While Minshew might have some streaming capabilities here and there, he's best viewed as a mid-QB2 option without much upside.

The Las Vegas Raiders anticipate making a decision between QBs Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell for the starting job after preseason Week 2, head coach Antonio Pierce said on Sunday, Aug. 11.

Las Vegas Raiders QB Aidan O'Connell "performed better" than QB Gardner Minshew in training camp practice on Monday, Aug. 5, after Minshew had the better showing during the previous practice, The Athletic's Tashan Reed wrote.

Las Vegas Raiders QBs Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell will each play a full quarter in the preseason opener, head coach Antonio Pierce said Monday, Aug. 5.
Huddle Up: This battle will have plenty of fantasy implications for Davante Adams managers, but neither option should be viewed as more than a back-end QB2.

Las Vegas Raiders QB Gardner Minshew appears to have taken a small lead over QB Aidan O'Connell for the starting quarterback job, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Paul Gutierrez. Minshew and O'Connell continue to share snaps during practices.
Huddle Up: Fantasy players will need to continue to monitor the situation because things could change after the upcoming preseason games. Neither Minshew nor O'Connell likely will be more than No. 2 fantasy quarterbacks.

Las Vegas Raiders QB Aidan O'Connell and QB Gardner Minshew will be competing for the starting quarterback job during training camp, and head coach Antonio Pierce said there is no frontrunner for the job, according to ESPN.com's Paul Gutierrez. Pierce said he is not in a hurry to name a starter at this point.
Huddle Up: O'Connell may have a bit of an edge since he had some success with the Raiders last season, but Minshew could win the job. Fantasy players should consider the winner of the job to be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback.

Las Vegas Raiders QB Aidan O'Connell is the favorite to be the team's starter in 2024, in the opinion of WR Davante Adams. "I want whoever is going to look the best when it's live bullets," Adams said. "I think right now if I had to say, I think Aidan has the job because obviously he was here before and that's the way that it was. He was running with the one's more and until Gardner comes in and takes the job away from him, I think it's Aidan's job right now."

Las Vegas Raiders QB Aidan O'Connell "probably has the slight edge" in the quarterback competition with Gardner Minshew, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler said on Sunday, June 23.

Las Vegas Raiders QB Aidan O'Connell received a majority of the snaps with the first-team offense during practice Wednesday, June 12, according to The Athletic's Tashan Reed.
Huddle Up: O'Connell will continue to compete with Gardner Minshew for the starting quarterback job when training camp starts. Neither quarterback will be a strong fantasy quarterback this season and probably will be a No. 2 QB in most leagues.

Las Vegas Raiders QB Gardner Minshew got the majority of first-team reps over QB Aidan O'Connell at mandatory minicamp practice on Tuesday, June 11.
Huddle Up: It's never a great idea to make too much out of one offseason practice, but this is noteworthy because the quarterbacks have split reps evenly up to this point. Even if Minshew wins the starting job, a QB21 finish in fantasy points per game in 2023 keeps him off the radar in redraft leagues. The same can be said for O'Connell, although he should still be rostered in dynasty formats.
