Free-agent WR Tyler Lockett (Seahawks) was released on Wednesday, March 5, but the door remains open for him to return to the Seattle Seahawks depending on what happens in free agency, according to recent comments made by general manager John Schneider. "Go out and see what's shaking (on the market), and we'll stay in touch," Schneider told Lockett upon his release.
Huddle Up: Two things will likely need to happen in order for Lockett to return: 1) his free agent market is cold and 2) DK Metcalf is traded. The first possibility is likely, if only because Lockett is 32 years old and coming off his least productive season since 2017. The second possibility is growing more likely by the day with many teams reportedly interested in Metcalf. Even if Lockett returns, however, he will fall well behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the target pecking order. It is hard to imagine Lockett returning much more than fantasy WR5 value at this point of his career.

Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett was released Wednesday, March 5.
Huddle Up: This move saves the Seahawks $17 million in salary-cap space after Lockett posted the worst season of his career since 2017. The 33-year-old averaged just 5.7 fantasy points per game and has been on the decline over the last two seasons. It will be interesting to see where he lands, but it's unlikely Lockett has any more fantasy relevance remaining in his career.

Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett appears unlikely to be on the roster in 2025, according to comments made by head coach Mike Macdonald. When asked about Lockett on Tuesday, Feb. 11, Macdonald would only say the Seahawks are "working through that."
Huddle Up: Lockett is set to turn 33 in late September and scheduled to count $30.8 million against the cap. Releasing him would save the team around $17 million, so Lockett would seemingly have to accept a huge paycut to stick on the roster. Either way, it would seem Jaxon Smith-Njigba and DK Metcalf won't have much competition for targets.

Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett caught two of his four targets for 28 yards in Week 18 against the Los Angeles Rams.
Huddle Up: Lockett's declining role over the second half of the season seems like it was the beginning of the end of his time in Seattle. The 32-year-old's season will end the season with 49 grabs for 600 yards and two touchdowns - his lowest production in each category since at least 2017. Lockett will likely have to settle for work as a third receiver with a different team next season.

Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett (rest) practiced in full for the second straight day on Friday, Jan. 3, and carries no designation for Week 18.
Huddle Up: With the emergence of Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Lockett has become an afterthought in the offense. He's not a viable lineup option in Week 18.

Seattle Seahawks OT Abraham Lucas (abdomen, knee) and CB Josh Jobe (knee) did not take part in practice on Friday, Jan. 3, and were ruled out for Week 18. Also, DT Byron Murphy II (back) was limited and is questionable and DE Leonard Williams (foot, rest), DT Jarran Reed (rest), OG Laken Tomlinson (ankle), LB Ernest Jones (knee), WR Tyler Lockett (rest), DT Roy Robertson-Harris (illness), OT Stone Forsythe (back) and DT Johnathan Hankins (rest) practiced in full and carry no designation.

Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett said he plans to play in the NFL next season.
Huddle Up: Lockett has not been a big part of the passing game for the Seahawks this season, so he may have to join a new team for the 2025 season. He has been a valuable fantasy option in the past but probably will only be a possible late round option in most leagues next season.

Seattle Seahawks OT Abraham Lucas (abdomen, knee), TE Brady Russell (foot), CB Josh Jobe (knee), DE Leonard Williams (foot), DT Byron Murphy II (back), DT Johnathan Hankins (non-injury) and DT Roy Robertson-Harris (illness) did not participate in practice Thursday, Jan. 2. OT Stone Forsythe (back) was limited during practice. DT Jarran Reed (non-injury), OG Laken Tomlinson (ankle), LB Ernest Jones (knee) and WR Tyler Lockett (non-injury) fully participated in practice.

Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett (non-injury) fully participated in practice Thursday, Jan. 2.
Huddle Up: Lockett is behind DK Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba on the depth chart and probably will only see a few targets during the game. Fantasy players should have better options available and can avoid Lockett.
