Dallas Cowboys TE Rico Gathers said he bulked up to 282 pounds in order to be more effective as a blocker. 'Now coming off, I'm delivering the blow,' Gathers said. 'I'm delivering the shot.'
Huddle Up: With Jason Witten retiring, this is Gathers' best chance to carve out a role in the Dallas offense. If you have been stashing him in a keeper league, continue to sit tight and see what happens.

Dallas Cowboys TE Rico Gathers is a candidate to step up as the team's starting tight end, according to NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal.
Huddle Up: Due in part to Gathers' lack of football experience, Geoff Swaim will probably be the favorite to earn the most snaps at tight end in Dallas. But make no mistake about it, Gathers is the one Cowboys' pass-catcher who can be considered a matchup nightmare. If he can stay healthy this season - multiple head injuries sidelined him last year - he could make a strong case to win a job during the preseason.

Dallas Cowboys TE Rico Gathers caught four passes for 47 yards and a touchdown, his second of the preseason, in a 13-10 loss to the Los Angeles Rams Saturday, Aug. 12.
Huddle Up: Gathers continues to show promise as he makes his transition from basketball player to tight end. If he is available in your dynasty league, he is a worthwhile stash candidate.

Dallas Cowboys TE Rico Gathers caught three passes for 59 yards and a touchdown in a 20-18 win over the Arizona Cardinals in the Hall of Fame game Thursday, Aug. 3.
Huddle Up: The former college basketball player has size and athleticism to spare. If he can put it all together, he could become a viable fantasy option whenever Jason Witten decides to call it a career. He is worth stashing on your bench in dynasty formats.
