New Orleans Saints FS Jairus Byrd (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Friday, Oct. 3, after suffering a torn lateral meniscus during practice Thursday, Oct. 2. Byrd (knee) underwent surgery Friday, and said it will require extra rehab because it's a 'bucket-handle tear.' Byrd's surgery was a success and a full recovery is expected, according to head coach Sean Payton. S Rafael Bush will replace Byrd in the starting lineup.

Huddle Up: Crushing blow for Byrd and the reeling Saints' defense, which now will be without its fourth-leading tackler and prize offseason acquisition.

New Orleans Saints FS Jairus Byrd (back) participated in full-contact practice drills for the first time this season Tuesday, Aug. 19. He's expected to play in the third preseason game this weekend.

Huddle Up: The Saints and a number of IDP league GMs are counting on Byrd, who's reeled in the second-most interceptions (22) in the league since his rookie season of 2009.

New Orleans Saints FS Jairus Byrd (back) practiced for the first time this offseason Tuesday, July 29. Byrd will gradually make his way back and did not take part in full-team drills.

Huddle Up: The ball-hawking safety and prize free-agent acquisition (22 interceptions and 5 fumble recoveries in his first 5 seasons) is coming off offseason back surgery and it could even take a few regular-season games for the Pro Bowler to hit his full stride.

The New Orleans Saints on Tuesday, March 11 signed FS Jairus Byrd to a 6-year contract worth $54 million, with $28 million in guaranteed money, according to a source.
SOURCE: Not available
Huddle Up: As expected, Byrd struck it big in free agency, signing with the Saints, whose defense took big strides in 2013 after 2012's disaster. Byrd spent his first 5 NFL seasons in Buffalo, where he racked up the second-most interceptions (22) in the league during that span.

The Miami Dolphins have shown interest in free-agent FS Jairus Byrd (Bills).
SOURCE: Not available
Huddle Up: Byrd, rated by many as the top FA safety available, is sure to attract a lot of interest, and don't be surprised if all of the Bills' AFC East rivals are at the top of the suitors' list.

The Buffalo Bills' contract talks with impending free-agent FS Jairus Byrd have been pleasant this offseason. The two sides did not have much success in contract talks last offseason.
SOURCE: Not available
Huddle Up: The seemingly annual contract negotiations between Byrd and the Bills are in full swing, but the FS is worth the hassle as only CB Asante Samuel has more interceptions (25) over the past 5 seasons than Byrd's 22.

Buffalo Bills FS Jairus Byrd (feet) said he is not sure when he will be able to return from the plantar fasciitis in both of his feet.
SOURCE: Not available
Huddle Up: Plantar fascitis in one foot is bad enough, but two? This is a pain management issue that doesn't sound like it will go away anytime soon. The Bills defense performed remarkably well against the vaunted Patriots without him, though. Can they keep it up?

Buffalo Bills FS Jairus Byrd is trying to convince the team to trade him before the NFL trade deadline.
SOURCE: Not available
Huddle Up: Between the apparently lingering contention over Byrd's contract situation and his lingering plantar fasciitis injury, this situation is a mess, and don't be surprised if the playmaking safety's next game is played wearing a new uniform.

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills FS Jairus Byrd signed his 1-year franchise tender Tuesday, Aug. 20. According to a source, Byrd will report to the team Thursday, Aug. 22.
SOURCE: Not available
Huddle Up: So Byrd will be a Bill -- at least for this season -- and that's a good thing for Buffalo and IDP GMs as he ranks third in the NFL with 18 interceptions over the past 4 seasons.

The Buffalo Bills and FS Jairus Byrd do not have any talks scheduled for Monday, July 15, which is the deadline to sign franchised players to long-term deals.
SOURCE: Not available
Huddle Up: It's looking like Byrd's 5th season in Buffalo could be his last, with the play-making safety playing under the franchise tag this season before being free to test the open market next offseason.
