The San Francisco 49ers could unveil a package of offensive plays featuring QB Trey Lance which may be utilized as soon as Week 1's game against the Detroit Lions, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, who added that it could be used in short-yardage or red zone situations.
Huddle Up: As long as Jimmy Garoppolo remains San Francisco's starting quarterback, Lance should not be considered for fantasy starting lineups, especially since it appears uncertain how often he will see the field. Garoppolo should be viewed as a dicey QB2 option in the majority of fantasy leagues, while Lance is worth rostering in dynasty formats.

San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance (finger) was able to practice without a splint on his injured finger Monday, Sept. 6. However, he was not allowed to take snaps or throw Monday.
Huddle Up: With a trip to the Detroit Lions in Week 1, it wouldn't be a surprise if head coach Kyle Shanahan plays it safe with his prized rookie and gives him another week to heal. Even if he is cleared to play against Detroit, it appears he won't have much of a role. If that ends up being the case, Jimmy Garoppolo makes for a strong DFS punt and a serviceable starter for fantasy managers who stream at quarterback.

San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance (finger) suffered a 'small chip' on his finger after jamming it on an opponent's helmet Sunday, Aug. 29. Head coach Kyle Shanahan suggested the injury is 'worse than a jam' and won't allow Lance to take snaps now. Also according to Shanahan, the 49ers intend to let Lance heal for seven days and are hopeful he will be able to return to practice Monday, Sept. 6.

San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance will begin seeing more first-team reps when it 'feels right,' according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. 'I haven't really defined that for myself either,' Shanahan said. 'When he seems ready, when I think the team seems ready.'
Huddle Up: Lance connected on a long touchdown in his preseason debut, but his performance was inconsistent overall. The 49ers don't have to rush Lance into the starting lineup, but he is a high-upside dynasty prospect regardless of how San Francisco uses him him in 2021.

San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance is making a push for the team's starting job, which for now remains in the hands of veteran Jimmy Garoppolo, general manager said Friday, Aug. 13, in a radio interview. Lynch stressed that the final call on the starting quarterback will be made by head coach Kyle Shanahan. 'He makes the decisions on who's playing and what not,' Lynch said. 'But I think it's Jimmy's right now and Trey's pushing. I think that's where it's at.'
Huddle Up: The thought has been that Lance, the third-overall pick in the draft, will certainly be handed the reins at some point in his rookie season, and that date seems to be moving up earlier and earlier with the glowing comments flowing out of the Bay Area. If Lance has even a decent preseason, don't be surprised if he winds up opening the season as the Niners' starter.

San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance will play a majority of the first half of the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 14, and could see some snaps in the second half depending on his snap total in the first half, according head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Huddle Up: Lance probably will start the season as the backup but should take over the starting job at some point in 2021. He likely will be a No. 2 quarterback in most fantasy leagues.

San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance will play at least situationally this season, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. Shanahan did not say if Lance will start at some point this season.
Huddle Up: Lance probably will open the season as the No. 2 quarterback but should have the chance to take over the starting job at some point during the season. He should be selected in all keeper leagues and could be a waiver wire pickup during the season if he goes undrafted in standard leagues.

San Francisco 49ers first-round pick QB Trey Lance agreed to a four-year, $34.1 million fully guaranteed contract Wednesday, July 28. All first-rounders receive fifth-year options.
Huddle Up: Lance's value in single-year leagues is pretty minimal right now, but he's a banger of a dynasty option.

San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance has 'looked comfortable' with the plays he has been asked to run during practices, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com.

San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance is meeting with quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello to exchange some playbook material Saturday, May 1.
Huddle Up: It's not a great development for QB Jimmy Garoppolo's chances of opening the season as the starter under center. This will be one of the more exciting QB competitions for the rest of the offseason and into the preseason. Garoppolo should be considered the slight favorite to start in Week 1 at this point.
