San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance (ankle) told reporters he is "three to four weeks" away from being cleared for practice and anticipates being "100 percent" for organized team activities this spring.
Huddle Up: Lance was already going to be a hot topic this offseason before Brock Purdy suffered what was reported as a torn ulnar collateral ligament, which should sideline him until at least training camp - if not all of next season. With Purdy's status in doubt and Jimmy Garoppolo highly unlikely to return, it paves the way for Lance to reclaim the starting job many expected Purdy to keep. If Lance can finally stay healthy in 2023, there is a distinct chance he finally becomes the latest dual-threat quarterback to take the league by storm.

San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance (ankle) is not expected to be traded in the offseason, regardless of the play of QB Brock Purdy, in the opinion of NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco, who notes that Lance would count $9.3 million against the salary cap if he's on the team but $20.15 million if he's traded. Maiocco writes that he does not believe the 49ers would "remotely consider" trading away Lance during the offseason.

San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance (ankle) underwent a second surgery to "remove hardware that was inserted during the initial surgery" and is expected to be ready for OTAs, according to NFL.com on Saturday, Dec. 31. "Lance will continue his rehab process and is expected to make a full recovery and return for OTAs," said the 49ers in a statement to NFL.com.
Huddle Up: Lance will be a wild card going into the 2023 season. His rushing ability gives him QB1 upside, but this injury should be monitored, especially with his progress going into OTAs in case he's not ready by then.

The San Francisco 49ers remain committed to QB Trey Lance (calf, ankle) as their long-term quarterback option, according to multiple sources. He will need four to six months to fully recover from a broken fibula, as well as torn deltoid and sesamoid ligaments in his ankle.
Huddle Up: Lance should continue to be stashed away in keeper and dynasty formats. Jimmy Garoppolo will continue to serve as the 49ers' starting quarterback for the remainder of the 2022 season and can be viewed as a starting option in two-quarterback fantasy leagues.

Huddle Up: Jimmy Garoppolo will be the starting quarterback for the rest of the season and should be a No. 2 quarterback in most fantasy leagues.

San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance (ankle) underwent surgery to repair his fractured and dislocated ankle Monday, Sept. 19. According to a source, Lance will be sidelined for the entire 2022 season but was able to avoid a compound fracture similar to the one Dak Prescott suffered in 2020.

Huddle Up: If there is a slight positive to take from this injury, it might be that Jimmy Garoppolo's contract will run out after this season and allow Lance to operate - at least in the public perception - without an accomplished starter and perceived threat to his job working behind him. Garoppolo will lead the 49ers for the rest of the season and should be considered a decent QB2 option in fantasy.

Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance (ankle) suffered a broken right ankle in the Week 2 game against the Seattle Seahawks, head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed Sunday, Sept. 18. His injury will require season-ending surgery.

Huddle Up: With Lance done for the season after two starts, former starter Jimmy Garoppolo will take the reins of the offense back heading into Week 3 in Denver and beyond. Jimmy G is once again worth considering as a QB2 in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams.

Huddle Up: With Lance suffering what appears to be a serious injury, it is likely Jimmy Garoppolo will finish this game, and perhaps slide back into the starting job if Lance is forced to miss additional games. Garoppolo would be a QB2 in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams heading into Week 3 in Denver on Sunday night.
