San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance (knee) did not participate in practice Friday, Oct. 22, and has been ruled out for Week 7.
Huddle Up: Lance likely will return to the backup role when he returns to the lineup and can be avoided in all fantasy leagues for now.

San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance (knee) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 21.
Huddle Up: It seems like Lance will not be available for the Week 7 game, and it is not known when he will start again since Jimmy Garoppolo is close to returning. Lance can be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 20.
Huddle Up: It is not known if Lance would be the starting option if he was able to play because Jimmy Garoppolo is close to returning. Lance may take over the starting job at some point but can be avoided this week.

San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance (knee) did not participate in practice Monday, Oct. 18.
Huddle Up: There was some concern the bye week would not be enough for Lance to recover from his knee sprain, and that assessment appears to have been a correct one. The 49ers have resisted the temptation to rush his development so far - even as the offense has struggled in recent weeks - but the clock is ticking for San Francisco to turn over the keys of the offense to him. Jimmy Garoppolo figures to remain the starting quarterback for the next month or so - assuming he can stay healthy that long - but fantasy managers in deeper leagues should continue to stash Lance if possible.

San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance (knee) is dealing with sprained knee, and his status for Week 7 is uncertain. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Lance is only expected to be sidelined for one or two weeks.
Huddle Up: The 49ers are on a bye this week, so Lance can rest his knee during the week. It is not known if Jimmy Garoppolo will be available for the Week 7 game, so fantasy players will have to see if Garoppolo or Lance will be ready for the game. Players can consider the 49ers starting quarterback a No. 2 fantasy quarterback.

San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance finished 15-of-29 for 192 yards and no touchdowns with one interception in Week 5 versus the Arizona Cardinals. Lance also rushed for a game-high 89 yards on 16 carries.
Huddle Up: Lance appeared to be much the same quarterback that he was in relief of Jimmy Garoppolo last week, often appearing as if he was the best athlete on the field as a runner but only willing to use his fastball as a passer. The No. 3 overall pick nearly had a rushing touchdown, but he was stuffed at the goal line on a perimeter run and was lucky not to get hurt on the play. San Francisco will likely turn back to Garoppolo after its Week 6 bye, but Lance needs to remain on rosters. He is not far away from becoming the permanent starter.

The San Francisco 49ers could unveil a package of offensive plays featuring QB Trey Lance which may be utilized as soon as Week 1's game against the Detroit Lions, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, who added that it could be used in short-yardage or red zone situations.
Huddle Up: As long as Jimmy Garoppolo remains San Francisco's starting quarterback, Lance should not be considered for fantasy starting lineups, especially since it appears uncertain how often he will see the field. Garoppolo should be viewed as a dicey QB2 option in the majority of fantasy leagues, while Lance is worth rostering in dynasty formats.

San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance (finger) was able to practice without a splint on his injured finger Monday, Sept. 6. However, he was not allowed to take snaps or throw Monday.
Huddle Up: With a trip to the Detroit Lions in Week 1, it wouldn't be a surprise if head coach Kyle Shanahan plays it safe with his prized rookie and gives him another week to heal. Even if he is cleared to play against Detroit, it appears he won't have much of a role. If that ends up being the case, Jimmy Garoppolo makes for a strong DFS punt and a serviceable starter for fantasy managers who stream at quarterback.

San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance (finger) suffered a 'small chip' on his finger after jamming it on an opponent's helmet Sunday, Aug. 29. Head coach Kyle Shanahan suggested the injury is 'worse than a jam' and won't allow Lance to take snaps now. Also according to Shanahan, the 49ers intend to let Lance heal for seven days and are hopeful he will be able to return to practice Monday, Sept. 6.

San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance will begin seeing more first-team reps when it 'feels right,' according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. 'I haven't really defined that for myself either,' Shanahan said. 'When he seems ready, when I think the team seems ready.'
Huddle Up: Lance connected on a long touchdown in his preseason debut, but his performance was inconsistent overall. The 49ers don't have to rush Lance into the starting lineup, but he is a high-upside dynasty prospect regardless of how San Francisco uses him him in 2021.
