Washington Commanders TE Cole Turner has the potential to be used more as a big wide receiver in the passing game rather than a traditional tight end, a league source told JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington. Turner was a fifth-round pick by the Commanders in the 2022 NFL draft.
Huddle Up: As veteran TE Logan Thomas continues his recovery from December ACL surgery, Turner may have a chance to work his way up the depth chart. While rookie TEs rarely produce immediately for fantasy, if the Commanders view him more as a receiving option, it could lead to them using more two TE sets. Given Thomas' injury history, there is a chance for the 6-foot-6, 249-pound Turner to prove himself worthy of a receiving role. At best, Turner may challenge Thomas for some third-down snaps, and the rookie could easily beat out John Bates for the second spot on the depth chart with a strong training camp. Turner isn't draft worthy yet for fantasy managers, but if he makes noise during the preseason, there's a path as a potential streamer if things go his way.

Washington Commanders TE Cole Turner is a ''very intriguing'' player, according to head coach Ron Rivera. ''This is a dynamic pass catcher,'' Rivera said. ''He's played in a spread-style offense. He's a guy that's a big target, he's got a tremendous catch radius, runs good routes and knows how to separate at the right time.''
