Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr was called the team's 'franchise quarterback' by new general manager Mike Mayock on Wednesday, Feb. 27. Mayock went on to say he is also happy with backup QB AJ McCarron.
'I think Derek Carr is a franchise quarterback,' Mayock said. 'I truly believe that. Now, do I also believe that it's a general manager and head coach's job to keep their job open to improve any position on a football team? Sure. But I think it's really difficult to try to improve over a franchise quarterback like the one we have in our building right now.'
Huddle Up: Carr has flashed at times and has shown the ability to be a low-end QB1 when all is going well. However, the perennially rebuilding Raiders need to restock the WR cupboard and shore up the offensive line before fantasy faithful can even whisper Carr's name in the No. 1 quarterback conversation. Barring an unexpected move to bolster his receiving corps, Carr remains a fringe QB2 with more downside than positives.

Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron played the entire game against the Chicago Bears on Thursday, Aug. 30, completing just 13 of 34 passes for 156 yards, 3 TDs and 2 INTs. McCarron also ran for 54 yards and a touchdown.
Huddle Up: McCarron fell behind Nathan Peterman and Josh Allen, and this may have been an audition to drum up some trade value. If so, completing 38.2 percent of your passes won't help. He accounted for four touchdowns and engineered a late comeback, though, so maybe that piqued somebody's interest. Either way, his chance to be fantasy relevant this year seems gone.

Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron (collarbone) was limited during practice Friday, Aug. 24.
Huddle Up: McCarron probably will miss the third preseason game but may have the chance to play in the final preseason game. He is still competing for the starting job, but owners in all leagues can avoid McCarron even if he wins the job.

Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron (collarbone) did some light throwing during individual drills Thursday, Aug. 23.
Huddle Up: McCarron may still have a chance to win the starting job but likely will be limited at practice for the foreseeable future. He would be a low-end No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he wins the job.

Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron (collarbone) will be limited in practice Wednesday, Aug. 22.
Huddle Up: He has a chance to open the season as the starter after the revelation that his collarbone isn't actually broken. His upside is pretty limited as a QB2.

Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron (collarbone) did not fracture his collarbone in Week 2 of the preseason, as was originally reported, according to a source. He is expected to be back at practice soon.
Huddle Up: McCarron isn't as seriously hurt as we thought, but Allen will still start this week. The Bills seemingly like what they've seen from Allen more than what they've seen from a healthy McCarron. The bottom line, though, is to not draft any Buffalo quarterbacks as your starter.

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron (shoulder) suffered a hairline fracture of his clavicle Friday, Aug. 17, against the Cleveland Browns, a source told The Buffalo News. It is unclear how much time he will miss.
Huddle Up: It looks like Buffalo will be playing Josh Allen, ready or not. It is difficult to envision the Bills bypassing their first-round quarterback in favor of Nathan Peterman. Allen is a QB3 in the deepest of 2018 formats.

Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron (shoulder) suffered a right shoulder injury in the preseason game against the Cleveland Browns Friday, Aug. 17.
Huddle Up: McCarron is fighting to earn the starting job, but any type of serious injury could throw the door wide open for Josh Allen to grab the spot. No matter who is under center for Buffalo this year, they don't need to be owned in redraft leagues.

Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron will be the starting quarterback for the second preseason game Friday, Aug. 17.
Huddle Up: McCarron is still competing with Nathan Peterman for the starting job, so it will help him if he plays well with the starting offense. Owners probably should avoid whoever wins the starting job because there will be better quarterback options available.

Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron (leg) and Nathan Peterman (arm) participated in practice Monday, Aug. 13, after both suffered minor injuries during practice Sunday, Aug. 12. McCarron worked with the first-team offense, while Peterman worked with the third-team offense.
Huddle Up: McCarron and Peterman will continue to compete for the starting job during preseason, so owners can monitor the situation. Neither player has had a lot of success in the NFL and probably should be avoided in most fantasy leagues.
